Flight duration: 8h 28m
Flight class:
Ticket price:
Aircraft: Boeing 747-400, First
Meal:
Drink: Orange Juice, Water, Coffee
Comments: Air India is having a Gujarati food festival on the AMD-LHR route so there was an unbelievable ridiculously huge breakfast spread available - a 3 course service all dished out and manually plated from the service cart. The full menu included Watermelon or Mango appetizer, choice of a half dozen Kelloggs cereals, Papdi, Jalebi, Kaccha Kela Nu Shaak, Bateta Ni Sukhi Bhaji, Khatta Dhokla, Gujarati Kachori, Farali Pattice, Masala Poori, Methi Na Thepla, Rye Ni Mirchi, Nimbu Chutni, Pudina Chutni, Cheese Omelette, Egg Hubert with Mustard Cream Sauce, Grilled Fish with Lemon Parsley Butter, Chicken Nuggets, Rosemary Lamb Croquette, Duchess Potatoes, Tomato stuffed with Spinach, Grilled Mushrooms

Route: Frankfurt FRA to Mumbai BOM, 2004-04-01
Date added: 2008-05-21
Flight duration: 7h 28m
Flight class:
Ticket price:
Aircraft: Boeing 747-400, Executive
Meal:
Drink: Coca Cola
Comments: Air India always serves a "snack" that could easily be a meal on other carriers. The shrimp were absolutely fantastic. The trainee was very eager to please and served me well after everyone else had finished since I was out of my seat during the main service.

Meal:
Drink: Water, Bordeaux
Comments: I was mildly disappointed with the main course. The lamb itself was excellent, but the sauce and the vegetables weren't quite up to my high expectations for Air India food, meal, catering. To their credit, the crew almost begged me to supplement this with the other entree (Goa Prawn Curry) that was receiving rave reviews. Service was superlative though. The trainee did a great job with the wine and the fruit basket reminded me of the days when AI didn't operate at minimum staffing and could deliver this kind of service on a consistent basis.

Route: Delhi (DEL) to Bangkok (BKK), 2004-03-26
Date added: 2008-05-21
Flight duration: 3h 27m
Flight class: business
Ticket price: US$355 (r/t)
Aircraft: B747-200 VT-EGC "Harsha Vardhan",
Meal: Mixed salad, Bread roll, Amul butter, packaged water, Yoghurt. The entree was Gosht Patiala (soft mutton cooked in a yoghurt/tomato/onion mild spicy gravy), Rice Pulao, and spiced vegetables (Cauliflower and potatoes cooked in dried tomatoes and green chillies) . Dessert was a Fruit Praline Mousse. Tea, Japanese Tea, and coffee was available too.
Drink: Water
Comments: Surprisingly there were menus offered. The meal was absolutely delicious. The mixed salad had variety, the bread roll was soft. The entree was outstanding and was wiped out in minutes. The mutton was well cut, marinated, and perfectly cooked. The rice was hot, and the spiced vegetables had imagination in preparation. On the whole the presentation was great and the quantity was more than adequate. What I was happy about was that there was a mouth freshener included too, something similar to the Jet Airways after mint. The other non vegetarian option was Chicken Hunan, Fried Rice, and Oriental vegetables.

Ticket price: US$355 (r/t)
Aircraft: B747-300 VT-EPW "Shivaji",
Meal:
Drink: Water
Comments: Surprisingly there were menus offered on this sector too. The meal was wonderful. The mutton had a bit too much fat, but all the same was deliciously prepared. It was also nice to have an Indian meal, after so many days of eating Thai food. I particularly enjoyed the mushrooms which was very much to my taste. The other non vegetarian option was Thai fish curry and rice. Air India's economy food service has picked up a few notches. Their service is top grade. If they could just improve the general product, this will be an airline to reckon with.
