Lounge: LHR - Lufthansa, Senator Lounge

Route: LHR to NCE - 5 June 2004
Comments: A much better more comfortable lounge than
the LHR Lufthansa business lounge, but it is in a terribly crowded small
room. There's the same bad art, but at least there is some carpet, and
big squashy armchairs (which are virtually impossible to get) along with
some harder buffet style seating by the windows, where the view is poorer.
There is a TV. There is also a one way door into the business lounge -
so it sometimes pays to get food in there, and go next door.
Food is better than on the other side, with the usual bowls of nuts, crisps,
and pretzels. There are also 3 trays of sandwiches which are actually
pretty good, with Cheese, Ham, and Prawn. Occasionally in the afternoon
there are cheese wraps which are very good, and highly recommended. There
are bowls of olives and gerkins, and packets of wetwipes.
Drink has better quality wine, with white being La Bourne & Reisling,
while red is Carta Vieja and Cabernet Savignon. Champagne is available
if you ask the staff - otherwise there is just sparkling wine. Beer is
Becks, Bankoff, and Erdinger, in bottles, and with proper logoed glasses.

Route: LHR to HAM, 31 Dec 2003
Meal type: lounge food
Contents of the meal?: Kelloggs Bran Flakes with Fresh Milk, German Stollen
cake,
Drink: OJ
Comments: LH have the usual choice of cold breakfast food in their gold
card LHR lounge (muffins, danish pastries, croissants) - in fact the rolls
are so similar to what you get in the BD diamond clubs that makes me suspect
they use the same supplier.
However, what I like about this lounge is their offering of Kelloggs cereals
with Fresh Milk, you get a choice Corn Flakes, Rice Krispies, Bran Flakes.
Such a simple idea but a very nice touch that made a world of difference
for me.
OK, you have to eat out of a tiny plastic container with an even smaller
teaspoon and the picture of the Bran Flakes looks like someone has just
vomited their previous night's supper of Indian food into it.... but believe
me, Bran Flakes with cold fresh milk tastes just great, espcially if you
let the flakes go a little soggy...
I also welcomed the fact that this lounge uses Fresh Milk not the foul
tasting UHT crap. Also, I would have appreciated Coco Pops or Cheerios
but I guess that it a bit too much to ask! :-)
This time (I suppose because of the festive season) they had some German
Stollen cake. I don't like raisins or dried fruit but I thought that I
should take some pictures for Airlinemeals.net. I then thought that since
Lufthansa had gone to all this trouble of laying on special cake for their
Senator card holders, I should at least try some.
Bad idea...I proceeded in my attempt to pick at the cake and tried to
extract the raisins from the dough. Unsuccessfully, I only managed to
end up with a plateful of small fragments of broken up cake. I was too
ashamed to photograph the shredded remains of the cake.
While I was playing about with taking some close-up shots, I noticed that
the CRJ700 which I was due to catch to Hamburg had already pulled up at
the gate - you can probably see the shot of that.
