Comments: A meat pie floater and VB? She'll be right!
Yes, catering at this Singapore Airlines outpost has taken Ozzie Bloke to heart, and offers just what they want. At two hours before the flight a tray of meat pie floaters (and sausage rolls) is brought out from the kitchen to give the Austrlian in you one last blast of unhealthyness. They are suprisingly good (although the kitchen told me the pies were "mixed meat", which troubled me slightly.
The SIA lounge at Melbourne is in the basement next to the United and Qantas lounges, and has two halves - first, and business (Raffles) class. Gold star alliance members end up in the larger Raffles half, once you've got past the amazingly snotty receptionist.
Food is great, with trays of sandwiches all the time. The salmon and cream cheese ones are very good. There is a platter with 3 types of cheese, a bowl of fruit salad, and a plate with cheese biscuits (and, oddly, fruitcake). Other than the pies, food is limmited to pot noodles.
The self-service bar is very good, and has the usual Singapore's "Wines of the month" (2 whites and 2 red) plus a bottle of champers (one of the last SIA lounges to still serve champers). The fridge gas all the usual beers, with VB and Crown dominating, plus some of the more unusual Australian beers like Cascade and Boags. Alas the fridge does not have Bloody Mary mix.

Route: MEL to SIN, 11 Apr 2004
Meal type: lounge food & drink
Meat Pie, Spring Rolls, sandwiches
Drink: Brown Brothers sparkling wine, Moet Brut Imperial, red wine (forgot which one it was)
Comments: Nice fresh aussie sparkler to start. That bottle was replaced by Moet but I preferred the Aussie sparkler. Good aussie meat pie. I enjoyed the hour and a half spent in this lounge before the flight to SIN.
