Flying from: Paris to Toronto, June 2003
Flight duration: 7.5 hours
Aircraft type & class: A330 - Executive FIRST
Meal type: Cheese and Dessert Course
Cheese Course - delicious selection of cheeses, including a really nice chevre. Served with some buttery, toasted breads, skewers with apples and dried fruits, a dried pear and apricot. Call me old fashioned, but I still enjoy my cheeses with grapes, something that I haven't seen onboard in a little while.
Dessert Course - there were three choices aboard and I sampled both of the cakes - Blueberry Mousse with Cream and Vanilla/Lemon Cake. Very nice, light options that were tasty and delicious. The other option was fruit, a good choice for those looking for something they can eat any other day.
Drink: Dow's Late Bottled Vintage Port.
Comments: A nice finale to quite a good meal.

Flight duration: 7.5 hours
Aircraft type & class: A330 - Executive FIRST
Meal type: Lunch - Main Course - Sauteed Filet of Beef with Wild Rice Panache, enhanced with Red Wine Sauce
Drink: Vineland Estates Semi-Dry Riesling, Niagara Penninsula, Ontario
Comments: Delicious and tender. One of the two meat options served on this lunch flight, with the other being Salmon with Horseradish Crust and the veg option being a Potatoe Gratine. Nicely cooked beef, slightly pink in the middle and super flavourful with the robust wine sauce that accompanied it. Excellent presentation with the whole tomatoes and an appropriate pairing, stirring memories of a Parisian brasserie or a summery, formal BBQ.

Meal type: Lunch - Appetizer - Smoked Salmon and Foie Gras with Fennel Salad
Drink: Vineland Estates Semi-Dry Riesling, Niagara Penninsula, Ontario
Comments: Quite nice appetizer. The foie gras was nice and appropriate coming out of Paris. The smoked salmon was also great, but the fennel salad was limp and soggy. Despite the attractive presentation, I didn't feel that these individual items were well matched as a salad. Nonetheless, a very good appetizer.

Flying from: London LHR to Ottawa International, 9 June 2003
Ticket Price: approximately $600 return
Flight Duration: 7 hours 20 minutes
Aircraft Type and class: Boeing 767 Economy class
Meal Type: Vegetarian Ovo-Lacto maybe lunch or supper; the flight left at 3:15 pm London time. - Penne and farfalle pastas with a helping of tomato sauce, cream sauce and some julienned vegetables; salad consisting entirely of mesclun mix; a mystery roll; whole wheat crackers with cheese; and a piece of apple cake.
Drink: water and some cheap red wine
Comments: Now, this was a lot better than the way out. We mixed our sauces and pastas together with the veggies and it wasn't half bad. It seems they were trying a little harder with the salad, and there was actually dressing (although it was Thousand Island, which I don't really like). The crackers and cheese were a nice touch, and yay! We actually got the dessert, which was rather tasty. We also got a scone with clotted cream and strawberry jam once we passed over Labrador (my dad says he's been getting this same snack every time on the way back from London for the past 10 years).

Flying from: Montreal (YUL) to London (LHR), 20 May 2003
Ticket Price: approximately $600 Cdn return
Flight Duration: 6 hours 30 minutes
Aircraft Type and class: Airbus 330 Economy class
Meal Type: Vegetarian Ovo-Lacto supper - A spinach lasagne, a whole wheat roll, some iceberg lettuce with a tomato (I guess some would call it a salad), and some fruit.
Drink: water (but we should have asked for some more of the free wine)
Comments: Apparently somebody at Air Canada thinks vegetarian = tasteless. I've generally had good experiences in the past with AC food but the lasagne tasted like nothing, the "salad" came with what looked like plain oil and vinegar, and the final insult was that we got a drivelly little bowl of fruit instead of the cake everyone else got. It was like we were being punished for requesting a special meal.

Aircraft type & class: B747
Meal type: "Pistachio Cassata with Chocolate Sauce"
Comments: An excellent and somewhat complex dessert - it's like an ice cream bomb - a creamy pistachio frozen mixture, topped with a raspberry sorbet, crowned with creamy ice cream. It's served with a finger cookie, dipped in warm chocolate. It was very, very good and quite exceptional from most inflight desserts. "Fresh Fruit" was the other option, although it didn't appear on the cart nor was offered - doubt most would turn down this beauty for fruit. Enjoyed with a nice hot camomille tea - very good selection of herbal teas. Well done Air Canada and inflight crew.

Meal type: After dinner Cheese - heese course before dessert
Comments: A very nice selection of cheeses - chevre was the most notable. Passed on the port, but took a generous portion of breads. Saddening to see the cheese trolley come back down the aisle all full- all the other passengers were asleep or didn't want any cheese- so it all gets thrown out. That's the sad part about airline food, meal, catering - that is why I make it my personal responsibility to eat on behalf of the entire plane.

Meal type: Late night dinner - "Salmon Pinwheel with Oyster Mushrooms served over Fingerling potatoes, accompanied by Lobster Succotash"
Drink: Vineland Estates Semi-Dry Reisling, Niagara Penninsula, Ontario
Comments: An excellent meal served with gracious care, attention to detail and true pride over this recently revamped international business class service. The salmon was delicious and was well paired with the lobster succotash, which was flavourful, rich and creamy. Although salty, the potatoes rounded off a good meal that was appropriate for the time of service. The presentation was excellent and appeared to be freshly plated with a transfer technique from another serving casserole in the galley. Such a marked improvement from the economy class meals served in china, that previously passed as business class fare. Also happy to see the economy class bar trolley stays on the other side of the curtain (unlike former days). Kudos Air Canada, kudos.

Meal type: After take off Cocktail - "Iceberg Atlantic Passion" - Newfoundland-made Iceberg Vodka mixed with lemonade.
Comments: "An excellent drink featured with some warm nuts. Excellent cocktail and a nice way to showcase some Canadian products and suppliers. Although I have never found Newfoundland Vodka offboard Air Canada, it was a weclomed freshment and a positive debut to what would prove to be an excellent inflight experience. Tasty nuts, although warming them seemed to have the effect of making them soft and mushy."

Meal type: Breakfast - They called it a "quiche". It was warm but I couldn't discern what the contents were. It lacked taste and was quite runny. The juice was good and cold. The meat patty was eatable...could have used more.
Drink: Coffe was "arrghhh" awful! Bottom of the pot!
