with pears, mediocre small serving of yoghurt and breakfast pastries.
Average breakfast, but papaya brings rating up.

Flying from: Sao Paulo (GRU) to Paris (CDG), 30 March 2003
Duration: 10h43
Aircraft type: Airbus A330, Business Class
Meal type: Dinner
Drink: Piper Heidseck champagne, Bordeaux red wine, Badoit soda water, espresso and Pear brandy
Comments: Started off with a pleasant Fauchon (chic!) box of cheese crackers and champagne, followed by a selection of smoked fish and shrimp, stuffed quail with peaches, beans and sliced vegetables, and a dessert of chocolate mocha cake, lemon sorbet and petit fours (not as good as the usual AF ones). The quail was surprisingly very good. I was disappointed in the petit fours but real espresso made up for this.
Rating: 7 (could have been higher if there was the usual petit four basket)

Meal type: Dinner
Drink: Piper Heidseck champagne, Red burgundy, Badoit soda water, coffee and cognac
Comments: Foie gras on a bed of grated celery, main course of white fish with tomato gnocchi and courgettes, assortment of cheeses (Cantal, Camembert and bleu d'auvergne, and lemon and raspberry sorbets with AF's great small cap of petit fours (congolais, financier and calisson). A very enjoyable meal. Air France has really improved their in-flight service in business class.

Comments: Perfectly acceptable snack of open faced Spanish serrano ham and chees sandwiches, and a moist almond cake for dessert. Straight, simple, enjoyable.

Meal type: Drink? Snack?
Drink: Perrier soda water
Comments: This is a major disappointment. First time no real snack on an AF European flight. I hate their bag of nuts and raisins.
Rating: 1 (I feel like being nice today!)

Aircraft type: Boeing 737-500, Economy
Meal type: Snack
Drink: French chardonnay
Comments: This is a fine snack! Smoked salmon on bread (a bit stale), the "Air France" brochettes that always pop up on their short-haul European flights: grilled chicken and dried fruit (apple, apricot, prune) and a truly excellent tender intense dark chocolate brownie!!
Rating: 8 (brownie brings the rating up)

Aircraft type: Airbus A320, Economy
Meal type: Dinner
Drink: Burgundy Pinot Noir
Comments: Satisfactory dinner given the equivalent on Alitalia (cold meal).
The main course was a chicken and pasta dish which despite the look of it was enjoyable. Italian cold cuts are always high on my list and this selection of mortadella and salami was fine. Cheese spread with crushed pecans (scared to say I like this) and a Napoleon ('mille-feuille') for dessert (not my favourite).

Duration: 1h01
Aircraft type: British Aerospace 146-200
Class: Business
Meal type: Snack
Drink: Chablis
Comments: I do not like the Air France LCY flights. Feels like you are flying charter (cramped space). This meal was one of the better ones: a burrito-type wrap of smoked salmon and fromage blanc (a bit soggy), a canapé of cured ham, one of cheese with walnuts, a brochette of dried fruit and chicken, chocolate covered nuts and a generous sized apricot tart (an improvement over the usual LCY desserts.

Flying from: Paris CDG to Turin, 18 April 2003
Flight Duration: 1hr
Class: Economy on A320.
Meal type: Snack - An offering of salami or cheese sandwich kindly handed out by the flight attendants. Shown is the cheese choice: filling was
a sort of feta cheese with pesto sauce. Strange combination but it worked and the flavour was not bad at all.
Drink: I had a Coke from a selection of soft drinks, juices, mineral water (still/sparkling), wine, coffee or tea.
Comments: Air France is possibly the only airline within Europe to provide a three-tier meal service on their European flights.
Flying in the rearmost part of the cabin means you'll get a sandwich. If flying Economy intermediate (Tempo Challenge) means a reasonable meal tray with entree, cold/hot main and dessert, while Business still earns a better level of service with porcelain ware and French delicacies. The sandwich was not bad: bread could have been fresher, though.
