Aircraft: Boeing 777-200 F-GSPZ
Class: Business, leisure trip
Meal type: Dinner
Contents: Duck breast and air dried beef with corn and cucumber salad, chicken with apple brandy sauce (Calvados), carrots, zucchini and pasta, hazelnet parfait torte.
Drink: Champagne, Red Bordeaux, water and coffee
Comments: Pleasant meal, but not one of the better ones. Chicken was very tender. Not much of a selection on the menu. I am not a big fan of hazelnut, but the torte was good.
Rating: 6 (should have more selection on the menu)

Drink: Orange juice, coffee
Comments: I really liked this breakfast. Never had the chocolate crepes with pears: VERY GOOD. The melon tasted really strange so didn't eat it. I also like the yoghurt w/granola.
Rating: 7 (bad melon, great crepes!)

Meal type: Dinner
Contents: Smoked salmon filets with fennel salad, shrimp with carrot-cumin purée and white rice, selection of cheeses (camembert, goat and bleu d'auvergne), fig tart with petit fours.
Drink: Champagne, French Languedoc red wine, water and espresso
Comments: Salmon a nice change from usual foie gras. Selection of main course limited to two options: shrimp was disappointing, too dry. Cheeses were fine. Dessert (as usual with Air France) was delicious and I can eat their basket of petit fours all day long. They have them available at the stand up bar on board through the remainder of the flight. I also like the real espresso they serve on board (even though FAs seem bothered when you ask for it instead of the brewed coffee they are passing around).

Meal type: They called it "Dinner"
Contents: Open faced cured ham sandwich, cold quiche, cheese puff, camembert cheese, bread and petit fours w/chocolate.
Drink: Champagne, French Corbières red wine, water, coffee
Comments: I am sure glad I didn't pay for a business class ticket for this meal. Cold, unattractive, basic and very poor quality for a flight over 2 hours and at dinner time!!!! Come on, Air France, this is very poor.

Meal type: Dinner
Contents: Poached salmon and crab salad, filet mignon with snow peas and mashed potatoes, cheeses and choco-caramel cake.
Drink: Champagne and French Languedoc red wine, water
Comments: Fine but salmon a bit dry and cheeses average (not as good as outbound from Paris). Filet mignon good with mustard and peas cooked to perfection. Bravo for Air France desserts - among the best in the skies! Forget the sundae trend - I'll take this caramel torte any day!

Route: Paris CDG - New York JFK, 1 September 2004
Flight Duration: 8h20m
Aircraft type: Boeing 747-400
Class: Business class, leisure trip
Meal Type: Dinner and pre-landing snack
Dinner:
*Foie gras with watermelon compote
*Filet mignon with vegetable flan and spinach, tarragon mustard
*Camembert, cantal and goat cheese
*Chocolate mousse cake
Pre-landing snack
* Cheese, bread, fruit kebab, plums (mirabelles) and apple cobbler
Drink
* French Languedoc red wine, water and coffee
Comments: Dinner was OK, but I do get a bit bored of the ubiquitous foie gras appetizer (at least they change the compote). Filet mignon was very good, and I like it that they serve it with a selection of mustards. Cheeses were great as usually (look how runny the camembert is!) and the chocolate mousse cake was delicious. The pre-landing snack was a bit disappointing and spartan. Would have expected more.

Meal type: Snack (Dinner?)
Contents: Smoked salmon on bread, ham and cheese foccacia sandwich, camembert cheese, slice of bread and red berry tart.
Drink: Champagne (Monopole) and coffee
Comments: OK but there is a lot of bread on that tray (bread fills you up I guess). The tart was great: nice, fresh and, well, Tart! Air France has really downgraded their European meal service straight across all classes. You used to get a hot meal on flights like these (even in economy).

Business or leisure trip: Leisure
Meal: Breakfast
Thin slices of ham, 2 slices of beef, 2 slices of cheese, 1 cake, 1 fruit cocktail, 1 yoghurt, bread and butter
Drink Tea and Orange Juice
Comments: Appalling. Everything was stone cold except for the tea. Probably it was meant to be like this. But it sure doesn't make for a good wake-me-up breakfast. The beef was sinewy and tough. Not to mention the rock-hard bread. The cake was dry but sweet. The only decent thing on the tray seemed to be the orange juice. I asked around. At least 5 other passengers had the same thoughts.

DESSERT: Selection of the cheeses, tarts, nuts, sorbets and small pastries.
Drink 2000 Bordeaux
Comments: Not too bad, in fact the salmon and filet were quite tasty, although the filet was served quite cool. The menu was a hastily typed & photocopied sheet in French that the flight attendant was loathe to translate to each passenger in my area. The attendants were surprisingly ignorant and ambivalent about the wines they were pouring.

Meal: Breakfast
Pre-packaged container with: powdered milk, powdered cocoa, instant coffee, 1/2 cup orange juice, crackers (including "biscottes" that are supposed to look like miniature pieces of toast), jam, applesauce, cheese, granola bar
Drink Coffee
Comments: Simply terrible. A freeze-dried pre-packaged breakfast pack unapologetically tossed out to the Business Class passengers. The flight attendants did not care that most of the contents required hot water to activate; they were too busy pushing the coffee. Note the lack of virtually any L'Espace linen, china and silverware. I felt like I was inconveniencing Air France by showing up to fly them that day.

Comments: Because Air France did not offer official meal service on this 13-hour Transatlantic flight, the "sandwiches" available in the L'Espace (Business Class) Open Bar were my only source for real food. I ate two. The are the same type of pre-packaged sandwiches one must usually go to a vending machines to choke on.

Comments: I've never felt so gypped by an airline. Air France said there was a food, meal, catering strike, causing a 2 1/2 hour delay in boarding. I guess it took that long to find stacks of these terrible standby meal packages. The ploy didn't work. This was just plain awful by any standard. The photo shows consumed food because I was famished from waiting to board the plane, and couldn't wait to eat SOMETHING!

Drink Red Wine + Diet Coke + Coffee
Comments: The meal was fairly good except the salad which was absolutely untasty even with the salad dressing, the lemon pie was the best part of this meal. I expected a hot meal on this route as I used to have on Air France flights above 2 hours ! But who should complain about this minor inconvenience, Air France is still serving complimentary meals on short haul flights, some airlines should take example on it !
Rating (1-10): 7 Cabin crew very nice and helpful who served me two drinks for my lunch + 2 coffees. I like to fly Air France.
