Route: LHR - BOM, 14 Mar 2006
Ticket price: n/a
Flight duration: 8h 15m
Class: economy
Aircraft: 747-400
Meal: Non Veg - I had a brillant Lamb Curry with some Aubergine Bharta, salad Papadum and Paratha. Awesome! For Dessert I had Pista Phirni! Just Great and innovative.
Drink: Red wine
Comments: The Food was tasty and the portions were large. I can honestly say that not even my mother makes a curry like that. It was just Yum. Food : 12 out of 10.
The only drawback was that the red wine was served in a plastic glass. Spoilt the fun of having a great quality wine. Drink : 8 out of 10
Service was good but entertainment system was really bad. Probably the worst I have ever seen.
Entertainment : 0.5 out of 10
soon after boarding an excellent hot breakfast was served - extremely filling BUT no Menu cards were given out.
Although Economy Class the Aircraft was spotless and clean.
Cleanliness : 10 out of 10

All in All: Great Flight. Can only recommend AI

Flight duration: 8h 15m
Class: first
Aircraft: 777
Meal: Non Veg. - Prawn Curry - Tamarind Duck - Smoke Salmon - Pate - Dessert
Drink: Champagne
Comments: Fantastic !!! This is the first time I flew Air India First Class from Heathrow and it was a experience of a lifetime. In the past I have used British Airways, Lufthansa from Frankfurt and Air France but have never experienced a meal like on Air India. I started my meal with some Smok Salmon and pate (Tamarind Duck was also an option). For my main course I had the most exquisite Prawn Curry, probably even better than any 5 star restaurant. Chicken Curry and a choice of vegetarian entrees were an option.
The desserts were fantastic although I could not taste all of them, what I ate was out of this world. All in All I can proudly say that India's National Carrier Air Inida is still Number One where food and drinks are concerned. Not only was the quality of food and taste great but it was also extremely well presented. I would happily travel Air India again just because of the food and the excellent on-board service I received - better than any other airline.
Air India truly is the palace of the Sky and I ate like a marajah.

Meal: Supper - Cheese and tomato sandwich, orange juice, mini toblerone chocolate
Drink: Orange Juice

Comments: Dinner served on this 5pm flight to Delhi. This was the second non vegetarian option. The fish was too fishy in taste and was cold. The noodles were too oily. The rest was totally avoidable.

Drink: Tea and water
Comments: The roll was so cold and hard it could have broken some teeth. The salad and desert were avoidable. The entree was yum. I had the vegetarian option too. Papadum was given with the vegetarian option only (wonder why). No aftermints. Menus were withheld as they were not carrying too much of the Oriental selection (stirfried fish with honey Soya sauce, haka rice noodles, stir fried mixed vegetables). I asked for a menu anyway.

Comments: Light breakfast served on the 0720am flight. The croissant and cake were dry and awful in quality and taste. I would rather not be served anything. How about a hot samosa instead? That would be much better than this rubbish.

Ticket price: $350 r/t
Flight duration: 5h 30m

Aircraft: A310-VT-EJH "Tista",
Meal: Lunch - Shrink wrapped hot dog bread roll, amul butter, yoghurt. Indian salad consisting of green chillies, onions, tomato etc.. The entree was mutton rogan josh (Kashmiri lamb curry), steam rice with raisins, and spiced vegetables (cauliflower and peas masala). Desert was Rasogulla (fried flour balls dipped in sugar syrup - a West Bengal delicacy). This was followed by aftermint and tea/coffee.
Drink: Diet coke and water
Comments: Excellent entree (I had two curries). The mutton was soft and blended well with the rice. The spiced vegetables were tasty too. I wish they had given a paratha or roti with it. There was no popadum or cheese and crackers. I did not have the desert. Air India stresses on the entree and desert. There's not much else to eat and that is a pity. There was an Oriental option of fish. The vegetable option was a paneer (cottage cheese) dish.

Ticket price: US$625 (r/t)
Flight duration: 2hrs40mins
Aircraft type & class: A310-VT-AIA (ex SQ) "Tapti", business class
Business or leisure trip: Leisure
Meal type: Dinner
Contents of the meal: Appetiser: Tiger prawn cocktail on a bed of red lettuce. First Entree: Grilled Salmon with lemon herb sauce, chateau potatoes, sautéed vegetables (spinach and carrots). Entree two: Dum ka murg (chicken curry), rice pulao, and spiced vegetables (capsicum and potatoes). Accompaniments were yoghurt, papad, paratha, Crema bel Paese cheese and crackers, fruit. Bread roll, Lurpak butter, and a Toblerone chocolate were included too. Desert was Date Crumble with Cardamom and Arabic coffee sauce. This was followed by tea/coffee.
Drink: Buorgogne Pinot Noir and water
Comments: Dinner served on this 5pm flight to Delhi. No cold/hot towels offered at any time. No table mats either. Aircraft was an fresh ex-SQ one, with a J class configuration of 2x2x2. Seat pitch was less than an original Air India A310.
The tiger prawn cocktail was excellent. Large juicy prawns. The bread was warm. The first entree was very innovative for Air India. The salmon was a chunky piece of fish, prepared delicately with the sauce. The accompanied veggies went well with it. Entree two (chicken) was as original an Indian dish you could imagine. Perfect in preparation and presentation. Desert was imaginative and excellent too, though sweet. There was an international touch to the meal. I do not understand the all in a tray service bit. The vegetarian option was Shak Navratan (mixed vegetable curry), rice pulao, and daal. The desert was Phirni with nuts. Overall there was ample to eat.

Business or leisure trip: Leisure
Meal type: Lunch (Vegetarian & Non-vegetarian)
Contents of the meal:
* Non-Vegetarian Meal: Chicken Korma Shahjehani, Rice Pulao, and
spiced vegetables. Translated as rice with chicken white curry on the
right and fried tofu/vegetable curry on the left. Appetizer was boiled
carrots rolled in fried tofu.
* Vegetarian Meal: Vegetable Shahi Korma, that is rice with mix
vegetables curry (cauliflower, potato, mushroom) on the right, and
fried tofu/vegetable curry on the left. Appetizer: preserved fruit
with cream cheese inside.
* Dessert for both meals: coconut pudding with lychee and mandarin orange.
Drink:
Comments: Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals are delicious!
(just like many other people have said before). However, the food
arrangement could have been better. Plenty to eat, but what's written
on the menu distributed by the flight attendant did not help much, not
to mention the Japanese translation of the vegetarian meal was
incorrect (written in Japanese as "Indian style chicken curry.")

Flight duration: 3hrs35mins
Aircraft type & class: A310-VT-EVI (ex KQ) "Brahmaputra", business class
Business or leisure trip: Leisure
Meal type: Lunch
Contents of the meal: Appetiser: Seafood terrine with mixed peppers on a bed of lettuce. Entree: Gosht Adraki (mutton cooked with ginger), steam rice with half a cashew, spinach with corn (spiced vegetables). Accompaniments were yoghurt, papad, rumali roti, pickle, Britannia cheese and crackers, fruit. Bread roll, butter, and Cadbury's Perk chocolate were included too. Desert was Peach and Apricot mousse, and some aftermints (saunf). This was followed by tea/coffee.
Drink: Heineken beer and water
Comments: Lunchtime flight to Dubai was delayed by an hour an half due to fog in Lucknow. Lunch was served at 4pm. The entree was served in tin foil containers. Shame. No cold/hot towels offered at any time. Aircraft was an old battered ex-KQ one, with a J class configuration of 2x3x2. Passengers felt like a bunch of sardines. Aircraft a total misfit in Air India's fleet.
The seafood appetiser was too fishy. The bread was luke warm. The mutton was tough and rubbery, nice gravy. The spinach and corn was edible. Desert was imaginative but too sweet. I have been served better meals with better presentation on Indian Railways (Shatabdi). The crew were a demoralised bunch. Was very happy to deplane. The other non veg. option was Chicken Mughlai, Rice Pulao, and Spiced vegetables. The vegetarian option was Paneer (cottage cheese) mangodi, rice pulao, and spiced vegetables. The desert was Chenna Payesh.
