Route: Los Angeles - London Heathrow, 10-11 July 2004
Flight Duration: 9 hrs 40 minutes
Aircraft Type & Class: Boeing 747-400 First Class
Business or Leisure: Business
Meal Type (s): Dinner
Canapés: Seared tuna wasabe, parma ham & melon, mozzarella
& pesto with sun blushed tomato
Appetiser: Spicy hot smoked salmon on polenta patty, basil mascarpone
coulis
Main Course: Sautéed chicken breast stuffed with artichoke and
three sweet peppers, red wine garlic sauce, green beans
Salad: Freshly tossed salad with Roquefort dressing (on the side)
Dessert: Organic ice cream selection with fresh berries
Cheese: A selection of fine New Zealand cheese
Surprise: The crew realised I would be landing on my birthday, and they
had a cheese cake with Happy Birthday written on it, presented it in my
seat and (quietly!) sang "Happy Birthday" - a wonderful way
to start a celebration, and a delightful touch from an exceptional and
caring crew.
Drink: Moet & Chandon Dom Perignon 1996 Champagne
Palliser Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2002 Martinborough, New Zealand
Pegasus Bay Pinot Noir 2002, Canterbury, New Zealand
Comments: Delightful from start to finish - some of the
best service in the air! Somewhat retro seats, but still extremely comfortable
and spacious. US and even some Asian airlines should take lessons on how
to deliver a quality service with flair and elegance.

Ticket price: £150
Flight duration: 6h
Aircraft type & class: Airbus A320, Economy
Business or leisure trip: Business
Meal type: Lunch : Lamb pie, pasta salad, ice cream
Drink: Water, Coffee
Comments: Considering I don't like lamb and there was
no other choice, I can't really comment too much. The pasta was dry and
bland, however the ice cream was quite good

Ticket price: NZ$1499
Flight duration: 11hr 05 mins
Aircraft type & class: 767-319, Economy
Business or leisure trip: Leisure
Meal type: Dinner
Contents of the meal: Beef Strips with carrots, bocroli and rice. Sushi,
udon noodles, strawberry cheesecake and an after dinner mint.
Drink: Green Tea and a Kumeu River Merlot
Comments: Very good and very tasty. The beef was well
cooked, spicy and tender. The vegetables were very tasty. The sushi and
udon noodles were surprisingly good, and the cheesecake for dessert was
excellent. Exactly the same meal as my flight to Japan last year. An excellent
wine too. Also not the metal cultery. This just rounds the meal off!
