Route: Papeete - New York-JFK, 13 May 2006
Ticket price: US$800 (JFK-PPT-AKL-PPT-JFK)
Flight duration: 12h 00m
Class: economy
Aircraft: Airbus A340-300
Meal: Brunch - Beef roll with mushrooms and hearts of palm salad
Fresh tropical fruit salad
Buttered crepes with guava compote
Bread and butter
Drink: Pineapple juice
Comments: The beef roll was bizarre -- tough and not much flavor. I gave up quickly on that. The fruit salad was very good, and featured Polynesian pineapple, the best I've had anywhere. The crepes were tasty and quite good, and the pineapple juice was Rotui brand, from the fruit juice factory on the island of Moorea (near Tahiti.) It's the best pineapple juice I've ever had in my life.

Route: Papeete - New York-JFK, 13 May 2006
Ticket price: US$800 (JFK-PPT-AKL-PPT-JFK)
Flight duration: 12h 00m
Class: economy
Aircraft: Airbus A340-300
Meal: Dinner - Cucumber and shrimp salad
Sauteed chicken with fafa (the green shoots of the taro plant. Kind of like spinach or collard greens) and coconut milk
Cheese
Vanilla flan
Bread & butter
Drink: Water
Comments: The cucumber and shrimp salad was way too salty and didn't taste very fresh. The vanilla flan had an odd diet-vanilla-pudding aftertaste to it.
However, the chicken was excellent, and I soaked up the rest of the sauce with my roll.

Route: Paris - Los Angeles, 18 Feb 2006
Ticket price: n/a
Flight duration: 11h 45m
Class: economy
Aircraft: A340
Meal: Economy class - 2 Spoonfulls of cold rice, 1 square inch of some kind of airy cake material, 1 roll. I believe most prisioners get better food. This isn't a joke, this was for real.
Drink: Water, about 2 sips total.
Comments: Our Paris/L.A. flight was 28 hours late, and Air Tahiti forced us to go to New York so they could save money. There was no mechanical problem on the flight. Air Tahiti put us on a CHARTER flight from New York to L.A. The flight was in the air OVER seven hours. There were no drinks, and absolutely no other food. Air Tahiti refused to put any passengers on other airlines, including first class, so they could save more money. I would not take Air Tahiti under any circumstances, at any price in the future. I don't blame the charter flight company for this meal, but rather Air Tahiti Nui. You have been warned!
