Route: Flight 439 0645 am - SNA to PDX, 17 Dec 2003
Ticket Price: $396.50
Flight duration: 2 hours
Aircraft Type & Class: 737-400; Coach
Meal Type: AM Breakfast Snack
Meal: Michael Angelo's Pepper & Cheese Omelet Panini.
This snack contained scrambled eggs, American cheese, roasted green and red peppers, sautéed onions, all in pizza style crust.
Drink: Diet Coke
Comments: This actually tasted pretty good; however, the American cheese was a processed cheese and tasted like Velveeta.

Route: YVR-LAX, 28 Nov 2003
Ticket price: C$335 (YVR-NYC-YVR)
Flight duration: 2h20
Aircraft: 737-400 FC / Mileage run
Meal type: Dinner
Salad with dressing, bread rool & butter, salmon with potatoes and vegetables (chicken was the other choice), dessert
Drink: White wine (unidentified but probably a weak insipid U.S. chardonnay)
Comments: My first dinner on AS. Salad was a little bit on the small side. The salmon was dry despite being coated with an unidentified coating (florentine spinach?) with sauteed onions and green beans, and potatoes cooked in an undeterminate fashion (boiled than sauted?). Dessert was a small cake you'd think was bought from a supermarket.
Meal was rather disappointing given AS's past reputation. Hot meal service on all except trans-Continental and long haul Alaska flights is rumoured to disappear soon.
Rating: 4/10

Flight duration: 1:25 minutes
Aircraft type & class: First Class
Business or leisure trip: Leisure
Meal type: Snack
Contents of the meal: Hot Nuts
Drink: double Baileys over the rocks, please.
Comments: The best nuts I’ve ever tasted. Imagine my happy surprise when I felt the bowl, and they were hot! No peanuts in this bowl, only the good stuff. They were so good, I asked for seconds. I was nuts over these hot nuts. I may even start heating up my own nuts when I’m at home, for a good way to unwind after a long day.

Ham, Scrambled Eggs, Apple Stuffed Egg, Blueberry Soaked Apple Slices

Comments: This meal was preceeded by a fruit plate. This breakfast was pretty tasty, the hame was good, eggs were excellent. The blueberry soaked apple was interesting, thought I think the slices would have been better served cold, rather than warm. And yes, that is an ACTUAL METAL KNIFE.

Ticket price: $378.70 RT
Flight duration: 6 Hours
Aircraft type & class: Boeing 737-700 First Class
Business or leisure trip: Leisure
Meal type: Dinner
Contents of the meal: Fresh Green salad w/ Raspberry Vinaigrette dressing and 2 slices fresh bread. Entree was white fish, carrots and rice. Dessert was an espresso chocolate torte.
Drink: Chardonnay with dinner. "Seattle's Best" Coffee w/ Baileys for dessert.
Comments: Basically the meal was good. Salad fresh, bread was warm and fresh. The FA first announced the entree as "salmon" but when she uncovered it, declared it to be "not salmon, but halibut." I eat a lot of halibut, and that was not halibut, but it was very good, regardless of what kind of "white fish" it was. I thought it was a nice meal and a good way to pass an hour. I am happy to see real metal silverware back!

Comments: Beer was ice cold; I'm not a big fan of Jicama, but the salad was actually quite tasty. Nice meal for a flight less than 2 hours in length.

"Bread pudding", scrambled eggs, ham, and a fruit plate.
Drink: OJ-complimentary and a bloody mary $5.00
Comments: The fruit plate was good, but the eggs were just OK. I couldn't work up the courage to try the bread pudding. The eastbound flight a couple of days earlier featured a warm scone, which was much better.

Comments: I think this is the worst airline meal I've ever had, or looked at. I only ate a couple of bites. The meat snapped back at me, which was a sure sign to avoid further bites.
