Business or leisure trip: Leisure
Meal type: Lunch
Contents of the meal: Supposed to be smoked salmon, chicken with moussaka and potatoes, fruit salad
Drink: Red wine and tea. I couldn't have water. I called the FA but never showed up!
Comments: It looks good in the picture but was awful. Salmon looks like roastbeef. It was pretty difficult to identify the meat. When i tasted it, it sounded like some chicken flavoured chewy food. The potatoes look cooked but were raw. For a 3h35 mn flight in business class this meal was a real joke. Alitalia at its worst. I can't imagine what was served in economy. Service was very very bad. Tired crew members, aircraft and cabin.

Drink: Tea cup and orange juice.
Comments: The disgusting focaccia was hard like marble but very hot and the cheese inside was without any flavour at all, the plum cake stayed in the plastic bag because after the orange juice (the only choice offered from the hostess) I had a tea without lemon to drink (I asked for that but the hostess never listen to that and never watched the customer in the eyes) so I didn't drink that... welcome back to Italy!

Drink: A 3/4 full glass of Coke ("we don't have Sprite" told me the
hostess) and a cup of tea with lemon after all.
Comments: The pasta was pretty good, the meat was also good, I didn't like the vegetables and the frozen turkey, the fruit was without any flavour. After only 5 minutes the hostess wanted my tray empty! For all the following night no glass of water, or whatever, was offered by a lot of flight attendants on board (Alitalia is often on strike because they want to save their costly privileges, never seen in other airlines).

*Selection of cheeses with raw vegetables and dried fruit
*Pastries
Drink: Italian spumante, Italian red and Limoncello
Comments: What read nicely on the printed menus turned out to be less than appetizing. The pasta was OK but overcooked and a bit cold. The beef was disgusting - actually worse than it looks, tough and void of any taste. Cheeses OK but can't compare to the Air France selection and the pastries a disappointing way to end an already disappointing culinAIRy experience. Limoncello is disgusting, by the way, especially when served with ice. Too sweet. Alitalia FAs have to be some of the worst in the skies. No smiles no nothing. Drink: Coca Cola out of a selection of soft cold/hot drinks.

A small cardboard box containing an orange juice tetrapak, a biscuits or savouries packet and a paper napkin.
Drink: Only other choice is mineral water.
Comments: This is a slightly revised version of the recently unveiled "all in one Alisnack box" concept now adopted by Alitalia on domestic and short international flights in order to reduce food, meal, catering costs. The small box is now also sponsored by Telecom Italia in order to further reduce costs (compare it with the previous design as featured on picture no. 22) and the refreshing towel is now again offered by flight attendants as a separate item. They also changed the biscuit/savoury and orange juice supplier.

Flying from Naples to Paris Charles de Gaulle, 9 June 2003
Flight duration: 2h15
Aircraft Type: Airbus A321, economy
Meal: Light lunch - Carrot and bellpepper salad, slice of cheese,
a sandwich with cheese, bread, fruit salad and meringue pie.
Drink: Italian red wine
Comments: One of the worst on-board meals I have ever had. The
sandwich just tasted like doughy bread and in case you didn't have
enought bread they gave you another roll just as doughy and tasteless.
The dessert was not enjoyable. Major disappointment. Do they ever
serve good food on Alitalia? Amazing for an airline representing a
country that has given the world such beautiful cuisine.

Flying From: Milan (Malpensa) to Mumbai, India, 26 May 2003
Ticket price: Frequent Flier Miles
Flt Duration: 8 Hours
Aircraft Type: 767-200 - Economy
Meal: Lunch - Salmon Salad, Fish in a white sauce, lasagna and fruit salad
Drink: Camapari soda followed by Cantinetta Merlot
Comments: Fish was fresh, lasagna was well made. Fruit salad for desert seemed too boring and healthy for an Italian meal.

Flying from: Rome to Turin, 5 June 2003
Flight duration: 1hr
Class: Single class Economy on MD80.
Meal: Snack/Refreshment - A small cardboard box containing an orange juice cup, a biscuits or savouries packet, a refreshing towel and a paper napkin.
Drink: Only other choice is mineral water.
Comments: This is the new "all in one Alisnack box" concept recently unveiled by Alitalia on domestic flights in order to reduce food, meal, catering costs. The small box is nice looking and partly offsets the smaller choice of drinks now available (gone are hot coffe/tea and a selection of fruit juices
and soft drinks: you now have your in-box cuppa of oj or water and don't dare to ask for anything else). The new concept, unveiled on June 1st simultaneously with the reduction of cabin attendants from 4 to 3 on their MD80s (now configured for 149 passengers instead of 163 in order to
cope with aviation safety rules), coincided with a huge 3 days strike by the category which cost the airline more than 500 flight cancellations.

Flying from Paris-CDG to Milan Malpensa, 6 June 2003
Flight duration: 1h29
Class: Economy
Meal: They called it dinner I called it a snack - Some sort of turkey or chicken terrine over a slice of cheese over a ham and cheese sandwich with carrot salad and olives. Dessert was a coconut tart. Bread.
Drink: Water and Italian red wine.
Comments: A joke. How can they call this a dinner? Coconut tart was acceptable. But really needs improvement overall.

Meal: Light dinner - Smoked roast and roasted turkey on a bed of boiled carrots. Smoked salmon with maionaise salad on a bed of boiled vegs with a slice of Boiled egg. White bread and fresh fruit salad.
Drink: Orange Juice and still water
Comments: "Incredible! Nothing in this tray can be identified as Italian food. I usually fly BA or LH and I'm very sad for the service received (compared to what I payed). I'd like to know who at Alitalia does the meal combinations. Turkey, pork and salmon ? BTW everything was served directy from the north pole: simply freezed ! The salmon wasn't that bad even too cold. No butter at all. The vegetables were hard as stones don't know if because of the temperature or because of the bad cookin'. The only decent thing was the fruit salad. Crew is everything but polite."
