Route: Frankfurt to Milan Linate, 4 Jul 2004
Flight Duration: 1hr10min
Class: Economy class on Embraer 170.
Meal type: snack
Alisnack box containing a sandwich with turkey ham, cheese and lollo rosso, a chocolate plum cake.
Drink: Coca Cola out of a selection of soft cold/hot drinks.
Comments: Again the Alisnack box! To tell the truth the sandwich was not too bad, and if you consider that Lufthansa is offering only drinks and biscuits on this same sector, this means that Alitalia is still "spoiling" passengers in economy. But I'm tired of average quality sandwiches on my flights!

Route: Milan Malpensa to Nice, 27 Dec 2003
Flight Duration: 40 minutes
Class: Economy/Business single class on Embraer 145 jet.
Meal type: Snack/Lunch
A cardboard box containing a sandwich, a small cake, a cup of water, a refreshing towel/sugar packet and a paper napkin.
Drink: Only mineral water and/or coffee.
Comments: This is the "international" version of the recently unveiled "all in one Alisnack box" concept now adopted by Alitalia and Alitalia Express on domestic and short international flights in order to reduce food, meal, catering costs, and replaces the previous "infamous" plastic box. As you will see it has the same design as the Alisnack domestic box, albeit in a bigger format. In this case the sandwich was a rather bland roll filled with cream cheese, roast turkey and rocket salad, while the cake was a not too bad pre-packaged sponge-style pastry. As per the drink service it is now down to "water or coffee" only! Definitely gone are wines and soft drinks... the run downhill continues! Not much to complain though on such a short sector, and the pretty flight attendant was extremely courteous as it often happens on AZ Express.

Flying from: Nice to Milan Malpensa, 6 Jan 2004
Flight Duration: 30 minutes
Aircraft & class: Economy/Business single class on Embraer 145 jet.
This time the sandwich was a completely tasteless roll filled with plastic-type
mozzarella and real gum frittata, while the cake was a passable pre-packaged chocolate sponge-style pastry. The flying time was extremely short though, so actually not much to complain on what you get as you don't actually have time to completely evaluate it!

Flying from: Nice to Rome, 16 February 2003
Class: Economy/Business single class on Embraer 145 jet.
Meal type: Snack/Lunch - A plastic disposable box containing a croissant filled with raw ham, cheese and a sun-dried tomato, a mini-sized double decker ham and cheese sandwich, a coffee filled chocolate and a cup of still water.
Drink: Coke out of a selection of soft drinks, juices, wines, mineral water (still/sparkling) or tea/coffee.
Comments: "The mini sandwich was extremely dry and practically unedible, while the filled croissant was a better idea than the usual boring cheese and ham sandwich nowadays the norm on most European flights. Until 3 years ago on this same flight you would have got a full size tray cold lunch, served on chinaware, including assorted cold cuts, shrimps salad and cream pastries. Two years ago the service was reduced to a half size tray and nowadays the economic climate and airline cost cuts have brought food, meal, catering service to this level. Not much to complain on a 50 minutes flight, though, as flight attendants on AZ Express are always very much friendly and the airline is quite often bang on time."

Flying from: Florence to Rome, 28 February 2003
Class: Economy (Italian domestic flights on most carriers have only Y class) on ATR72-500. Alitalia Express is a 100% owned subsidiary
of Alitalia, flying ATR72s and Embraer 145s on feeder domestic and European services for the major carrier.
Meal type: Refreshment - Your choice of savoury snack or biscuits. This time I feature a bag of salted savouries (mix of plain, sesame, coriander and poppy. flavoured mini puff pastries. They're manufactured by one of the best known biscuit makers in Italy, and branded
(like the other biscuits onboard) as Alitalia items, in a distinctive package.
Drink: I had orange juice from a selection of soft drinks, juices, mineral water (still/sparkling) or tea/coffee.
Comments: "Same fare as for Alitalia mainline domestic services, independently of length of the flight or time of day. Really not too bad."
