Aircraft: 737-300 - N160AW
Meal: Beverage Service - Two packs of honey sesame sticks and cashews.
Drink: Scotch and Coke
Comments: This is the new First Class snack offering replacing the old America West gormet snack mix. That mix featured cranberries and almonds, this is like a pared down version of it. At least I got two packs.

Aircraft: A-320 - N652AW
Meal: Beverage Service - America West Snack Mix featuring cranberries, cashews, sesame sticks and almonds.
Drink: Pepsi and Scotch

Meal: Beverage Service - A Napkin?

Comments: The fact that a full beverage service including alcohol was completed for a nearly full load of 87 people is impressive enough that food wasn't needed. Check out the meal tray support that holds the tray table in place in the exit row.

It wasn't a bad salad. The brownie however was delicious!!

Contents of Meal: My companion had chicken Caesar salad and I had cold pasta with shrimp. Later, pineapple cobbler.
Drink: Merlot
Comments: The Caesar salad was average. The shrimp cold salad was weak at best, but it was better than nothing. The pineapple cobbler was good, but where was the ice cream? The tray table was dirty (if you look closely, you can see this in the photo of the cobbler. The flight attendant, Terri, was the bright spot of the experience!

Comments: Full can of beverage was great; but, as the Mini Prezels was really a “Mini” size, I would be appreciated that they gave us something together. However, in spite of the full flight, both pilots and flight attendants were quite efficient and friendly, which provided us a comfortable ride.

Business or leisure trip: leisure
Meal type: breakfast
Bowl of granola cereal, cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberries, grapes, pineapple, orange slices, croissant, cheese, milk
Drink: Ice water
Comment: The meals was delicious. Not to extravagant but great for what it was. The cereal was very crunchy with a hint of sugar. (Not to sweet). The fruit was extremely fresh and cold. The orange slices were both peeled, and sliced. The croissant was warm served with a side of cheese. I did not think that the meal would be filling however I was mistaken. It was not only filling but healthy. The meal was served only 30 minutes after take-off, leaving me enough time to get some sleep the rest of the flight, seeing as the flight left DTW at 7:45a. I think this was a great meal from America west.

Meal type: Dinner
Package of deluxe mix nuts, shrimp pasta, breadstick, and apple cobbler
Drink: Diet Pepsi
Comment: The meals was good. I was expecting a little more than a cold pasta plate. I think maybe there should have been a hot choice as well. Although there was a choice of chicken pasta or shrimp pasta I chose the later of the two. The shrimp was cold and the breadstick was warm although a little chewy. I think it was supposed to be hard. The shrimp was not seasoned but came with a lemon and a salt and pepper shaker. I would have liked some sort of seasoning on the shrimp. The pasta was tasty with a very lite sauce. There were onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, feta cheese, olives, parsley and some other spices, and herbs. The aircraft was extremely hot as it had just come from the hanger in PHX were it was over 100 degrees. Once at altitude it cooled down but having a cold plate sure did help. Shortly after finishing the shrimp pasta we were served a dish of hot apple cobbler. The apple cobbler was very tasty but seems to be served on every flight I travel on America west. This was a good departure from the calzones they have seemed to been serving for the longest time.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 8 I would have liked more seasoning on the pasta and a hot dinner choice as well

Flight duration: 4 hrs 10 min
Aircraft type & class: Airbus, First Class
Business or leisure trip: leisure
Meal type: Pre-Departure drink
Drink: Rum and Coke
Comments: Returning in first class, I expected HP service to better then in coach. Unfortunatelly, America West offering consisted of several drinks (pre-departure drink and a drink with the meal) plus a pack of snack mix and a pack of peanuts. On this 4+ hour red-eye flight we were served the pictured pre-departure drink as well as "dinner" consisting of a pack of snack mix. I didn't touch the "dinner" since I could not even think of eating another pack of America West's snack mix. Also, LAS, America West's second hub is a dump filled with smokers and constant, endless sound of slot machines. The 3 hours spent there waiting for a connection felt like an eternity.

Comments: Returning in first class, I expected HP service to better then in coach. Unfortunatelly, America West offering consisted of several drinks (pre-departure drink and a drink with the meal) plus a pack of snack mix and a pack of peanuts. Mercifully, the tray table in FC did not contain advertising like the ones in coach. I truly can not imagine someone paying extra for America West's first class, since the seats were much less comfortable then on Continental or Northwest (I haven't flown FC on other airlines) and the food non-existent. The only plus for HP is the fact customs and imigration in PHX are extremely easy and fast.

Flying from: LAS to BWI, 4 August 2003
Ticket price: $398 coach + 20K Miles to upgrade to First Class
($1998 w/o miles)
Flight duration: 3:44 PM PDT - 11:44PM EDT (4+ Hours)
Aircraft type & class: A320
Meal type: Dinner - Cold Beef, Cold Potato Salad, Cold Southwestern
Salad, Cold Toasted Hearbed Bread, Warmed 5" Chocolate chip cookie
Comments: First Class passengers were offered a choice of entre (chicken or beef). Coach passengers had to make due with the infamous mixed salted nuts, which made a coach companion slightly sick to the stomach.
The whole meal, with the exception of the desert, was intended to be, and was in fact, served cold. I ended up eating the entire meal and found it very agreeable for a chilled meal being consumed by a hungry person.

The beef which was cooked medium-rare to medium, was adequate for a cold entre, not very dry and had the desired roasted or grilled flavor. The potato salad had a surprising yellow deli mustard taste, not quite overwhelming, but dominating. The southwestern salsa-ish salad was surprisingly flavorful and probably the highlight of the meal. The brown sauce tasted of a mix of A-1 and bar-b-que sauce , although simple it was a flavorful addition. The herbed, toasted bread (butter available) was somewhat bland and, while not quite soggy, not crisp and crunchy as might be desired, either. Desert consisted of a warm ~4.5" cookie (not pictured) which while good, seemed awfully thin.
The flight attendent forgot the salt and pepper in the original service, so I had to request it, others got it automatically. I got a strange look when requesting a glass of milk after being served the cookie. Otherwise the service was friendly, efficient and adequate. Drinks were available upon request in FC. I was pleaseently surprised to see cocktail glasses and ceramic coffee cups return after reading of others styrofoam experiences.

Flying from: Cleveland, USA to Phoenix, USA, May 24, 2002
Class: Coach
Meal type: Breakfast - A single club cracker and choice of beverage
Comments: Triumph of the Bean-Counters. This was a 5-hour flight that left Cleveland at 7:10 AM. The accompanying photo shows the entirety of in-flight food service. Without a doubt the most cheapwad in-flight service I've ever experienced; the commuter flight from Phoenix to San Diego County had better snacks. Get food before I left? Just try finding an open food kiosk at Cleveland Hopkins before 8 AM.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 1.5; given an additional notch for purchasing creativity in sourcing *individually wrapped* solo crackers.
