Route: Miami to Boston, 10 Nov 2004
Ticket price: upgraded to First
Flight duration: 2.5 hours
Aircraft type & class: Boeing 757; first class
Business or leisure trip: Business
Meal type: Early dinner
Over the last few months I have taken many internal flights in the USA,
and I never eat the food as it always smells rank. However, due to a fortunate
upgrade in Miami I decided to try the food in First Class. Meal was an
early dinner, and consisted of Teriyaki salmon, some rice, green beans
and a salad. The rice was okay, the salmon very dry, and the salad was
too lemony to eat. My mouth was coated in something (similar to that feeling
after a very fatty meal) after the meal and the glass of chardonnay I
had with it did nothing to remove the sensation. Very salty meal.
Desert was a bag of lemon cookies. A quick glance at the ingredients disabused
me of any notion that they were edible.
As much as I like the odd postings on Airline Meals that I have made,
this is one experience that I will not be repeating
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 2 for the food, 8 for the service

Comments: I was glad AA served dinner on a late evening flight. The pasta
was pretty good and cake was very good. I wish they served butter instead
of margarine.

Contents of the meal: Salad with chicken breast, olive tapenade (first
time sighting for this), focaccia slices, a glob of some kind of soft
cheese with chives, Carr's water crackers, cheddar cheese rectangle, ranch
dressing, and some Brussels cookies.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): Ordinarily it would get a 5, because fundamentally
it was the same old tired, cold salad that replaced our hot, 3-course
lunches two years ago! However, the olive tapenade appeared and it was
actually good, and certainly unique at 35,000 feet. Refreshing to see
AA mixing it up a bit, menu-wise -- 7.5

Contents of the meal: This flight has had two choices for the longest:
Chicken Parmagiana or Filet Mignon. Had, I say, because AA has seen fit
to replace the filet with a beef short rib. To their credit it was tender,
but tasted just okay.....really made me miss my usual filet ;) Chicken
is always ok too. Each comes with a salad, and dessert, all tray service,
at the same time.

Drink: Cabernet
Comments: The meal was very enjoyable. The tomato and mozzarella salad
was fresh the dressing very tasty. The filet was outstanding . The beef
was cooked to a perfect medium rare and was so tender you could almost
cut it with a plastic fork. The potatoes were ok if slightly bland. The
sundae desert was quite good.

Meal: Dinner
Warm nuts followed by a salad of mixed greens, with
leeks and couscous. My entree choice was a very tasty beef filet in a
mushroom cream sauce with rice pilaf, asparagus and carrots. The other
choice was an eggplant ravioli dish, which I was told was pretty good
too. Dessert was an ice cream sundae with a rum-flavored syrup topping,
and coconut sprinkles. Coach meal was, I believe, an attempt at "carne
merchada" (shredded beef in a red pepper sauce) with rice and zuchinni.
I tasted it and it was not bad at all. The coach dessert was flan, with
an odd appearance and even odder texture....not so good.
Drink: Water, Tomato Juice.
Comments: Food quality and presentation was better than FLL-CCS.
I asked FA what was served in coach, and as she had noticed me taking
pictures of the food, she brought me a coach meal to photo. "Anything
for an EXP," she said! Great crew and only three pax up front this
time. Coach about 90% full.

Ramekin of warm nuts to start (not pictured), followed
by a mixed greens salad with tomatoes, mushrooms, artichoke heart pieces,
and kalamata olives. Entree choices were a beef filet with roasted potatoes
and broccoli with red pepper strips (pictured), or AA's well known Shrimp
and Risotto (not pictured, you can find it here on other submissions).
Dessert was an ice cream sundae of vanilla ice cream with chocolate chips,
topped with some brickle squares.
Drink: Water, Tomato Juice
Comments: OK. Pretty standard AA domestic, first class fare on
this short, international "business class" route....there were
8 pax total in F class out of 16 available seats. VE's political instability
has nosedived the fares to this country....good for travelers off the
beaten path, and this was my first trip back to Caracas proper since 1986,
when I lived there. You need to take some precautions now, but otherwise
you can still have a very enjoyable time, and it's a great deal for dollar

snack = cheese pizza, grapes, shortbread biscuit
Drink: water, tea
Comments: Loved the lamb curry as a choice! Too often it's barbecue
chicken or boring beef, and it was an unexpected surprise to be offered
curried lamb. It was even nice meat and not grisly or a cheap cut. The
rice was extremely nice and included pieces of stewed dried fruit (I think
it was a prune!) Again the salad disappoints for lack of imagination,
and I didn't even touch the solid bread. The afternoon pizza snack was
overwhelmingly chewy and bready and I think there was a bit of tomato
sauce under all that cheese, but it was really hard to tell. It had all
the texture, flavour, and imagination of a frozen Red Baron single left
under the galley lights for 3 hours.

on the way to DFW (pancakes and Chorizo [yuk!]). Best part was the landing
on 25R at LGB, only 4461' after the fixed distance marker and displaced
threshold. I used to do touch & goes with students in light airplanes
on this runway. Runway 30 was closed for repairs. Banged the nose wheel

Breakfast so poor, you must take by yourself the "Bistro" bag
before board the plane.I know that airlines had to reduce budget but this
is a ridiculuos way. Food is not expensive, i prefer sometimes they charge
a 5 dollars extra in my ticket and gave me a razonable meal. On the way
to Miami we also had a Snack, i didn't take any picture because a pretzels
bag and a glass of soda (the flight attendant opened one soda can and
filled up 2 or 3 glasses at the time)doesn't make any sense.
Diner a little bit better, but small portions. No complementary alcoholic
drinks, American charge 5 dollars for a Beer can or a small botlle of
wine.
Believe it or not, this is the service and food, meal, catering on board of American
Airlines, the big MEGACARRIER of the most rich country in the world. Even
a smaller Latin-American or Asian airline company may offer better service.

Meal: Breakfast
Mexican omelet, fruit plate, bagel
Drink: Orange Juice & Iced Tea
Comments: Did not like the sauce surrounding the
omelet; seems I complained about this same dish out of LAX about a year
ago--AA really listens. Would have preferred bacon and hash browns. Other
choice was pancakes. CO still has better meals up front and free upgrades
for elite pax, but trying to book reasonable award travel through the
Nonepass Program is like pulling teeth, hence my defection back to AA.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 3 (10 for the fruit)

this camera can store up to 475 pictures but the relatively short battery

Comments: Sucks how meals weren't served for such

Meal: Breakfast
Drink: The usual assortment of beverages that
you would find on an AA domestic flight
Comments: This was a pretty good meal for a U.S.
carrier domestic flight. It consisted of an omlette with a spicy/creamy
filling, a round slice of Canadian bacon, a mini-bagel, and some canteloupe
slices. Transcontinental flights are about the only flights you actually
get a hot meal in economy in theU.S. these days, so I was grateful for
this modest little breakfast.

Meal: Lunch
Macadamia encrusted breast of chicken with sauteed zuchinni, squash, and
mashed potatoes.
Drink: Water, Tomato Juice
Comments: Pretty good. Best of the meal is the
sundae (and freshed baked cookies prior to landing). Unfortunately, I
did not take pictures of those two. AA's Flagship service in F on the
767-200 is about the best way you can get from coast to coast. Very enjoyable
with a personal DVD player/movies, and the "wooly mammoth seat,"
which is AA's version of a Barcalounger.

Salad. The Flagship service in F on this route is quite extensive. You
can add all kinds of extras like vegetables, salmon, or chicken, making
the salad a meal in itself. Since I was having an entree also, I just
added some tomatoes, mushrooms and artichokes
Drink: Water, Tomato Juice
Comments: Very good.

Meal: (Vegan) Dinner
Tofu with onions and peppers over rice with a salad, roll, and a vegan
desert.
Drink: Cranberry-apple (not pictured) (the meal
came with a bottle of water)
Comments: Wow! The main dish was a large helping
with a few good chunks of tofu and nice sauteed veggies. The rice was
bit overcooked, but not bad. The salad was very green and fresh. I have
to give credit to AA for finding a vegan desert (as most airlines just
do fruit), and one that was pretty good. Having flown JFK-SFO earlier
in the year and gotten a bland rice dish with veggies (see picture 230
under American Airlines) I was very surprised that this meal contained
tofu, and was excellent. (Now if they could only work on breakfast.)

Meal: (Vegan) Breakfast
Food bar, raisins, and a bagel
Drink: Orange juice (included with the meal)
Comments: Horrible! The bagel was hard and had
no taste at all; it was the worst airline bagel I ever had. The raisins
were horrible. The margarine contained milk (only soy-margarine does not
contain milk) and not only was the food bar practically candy with the
high-sugar and low-protein, it was not vegan! It even said on the wrapping
"contains milk". Honestly, American Airlines...

Comments: The warm croissant was a nice touch,

than most red-eye breakfasts.

Meal: Dinner Beverage Service
Pretzels and cranberry-apple juice.
Comments: I was surprised to find out that they
had cranberry-apple on the flight, as it is usually only on domestic sectors.
Although this has nothing to do with food, the nice thing is that the
777 has the tray tables that fold in half that are perfect for the beverage
service and other functions during the flight. More airlines should definitely
do this. Throughout the flight, one of the flight attendants would come
by and give me a can of the juice, which I thought was very nice and makes
you feel "personal"?

This was the chicken selection. The main dish was chicken with potatoes
and vegetables, salad, roll with butter, and a brownie for desert.
Drink: Seltzer (the meal came with a bottle of
water)
Comments: The chicken was pretty good and was
certainly better than most chicken. The potatoes were nicely seasoned,
and the vegetables just fine. The salad was a standard airline salad,
although a bit greener than most airlines' salads. The brownie was fine.

Drink: Ginger ale (the meal came with a bottle

Comments: This person did not have an option for
their meal (the other option ran out). The beef was standard airline beef,
the mashed potatoes a bit frozen, and the vegetables very blandish. The
salad was a standard airline salad, although a bit greener than most airlines'
salads. The brownie was fine. Overall, the meal was very average.

Croque Monsieur Breakfast Sandwich - Grilled sandwich with Turkey Ham,
Swiss Cheese and Bechamel Sauce, topped with melted Swiss Cheese and Sid
Wainer's roasted tomatoes. Yogurt, Fresh Seasonal Fruit, and Assorted

Drink: Milk, Orange Juice, Coffee
Comments: An AA business-class staple arriving
into deep South America. It's pretty good providing it's not overcooked,
and hence drying out the bechamel. This one wasn't. The roasted tomatoes
(seem more like sun-dried) are a nice addition to this venerable classic.
Surprisingly fresh fruit served along with it.

Meal: Dinner
Hoisin sauce marinated Lamb Medallions with grilled Zucchini, grilled
Tomato, grilled Bell Peppers and Herb Rice
Drink: Finca Flichman "Caballero de la Cepa"
Cabernet Sauvignon
Comments: Overall very good. I have a 50/50 track
record with lamb on the ground, so it was with some trepidation (and lack
of choices; fish [rarely eat and never on planes], pasta [carb bowl] or
soup [not filling enough for dinner]) that I had the lamb. Pleasantly
suprised, as it was tender, juicy, and had a great flavor. The Hoisin
sauce had some influence on that no doubt.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 9 Great flight and service
from the DFW-based crew. Only 10 pax in the forward cabin this flight,
very light load in coach too... it was 6 days after the U.S. had attacked
Iraq.
