Aircraft type & class: Embraer 145, Business
Business or leisure trip: Business
Meal type: Lunch
Contents of the meal: Chicken Salad, Apple and Sultana pie
Drink: Delcaves Champagne, NV.
Comments: British Midland had a proper meal service in
this Embraer jet - none of the cheap picnic rubbish they offload on their
larger aircraft. Tasted OK, but portions were small.

Route: London Heathrow LHR to Glasgow GLA, 22 Nov 2003
Ticket price: £130+tax
Flight duration: 1:20
Aircraft type & class: A321, Business Class
Business or leisure trip: Business
Meal type: Breakfast
English Breakfast (sausage, plain omelette/scrambled egg, hash brown,
baked beans, mushrooms, bacon, kethup), roll & butter, fresh fruit
selection (apple, orange, pineapple slices).
Drink: Tea, Mango and Passion fruit yoghurt drink.
Comments: I always welcome an English Breakfast, although
the beans were rather dry. Sausage was especially yummy with herbs in
it. Couldn't tell if the egg was meant to be scrambled or an omelette.
Still, a welcome return to the English Breakfast on British Midland. I
was getting very frustrated with their panini excuses. Fruit selection
really was fresh. Yoghurt drink was OK, but not my cup of tea really.
There was a selection of tea - Earl Grey and 'normal'. I had normal. Never
realised you ever had a choice. I was the only passenger in BC that morning.
I successfully managed to open the milk carton on this occasion without
spillage, but the FA brought around a jug of milk anyway - she confided
that she agreed that the milk cartons are pathetic, and that's why she
brings a jug! Still it was to no avail as we hit some turbulance and most
of my tea ended up on the tray table anyway.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 7 - would be higher but I still
don't appreciate
the picnic box idea at all.

Ticket price: GBP. 60 rtn inc taxes
Flight duration: approx 60 mins
Aircraft type & class: A320-200, Y Class
Business or leisure trip: Leisure
Meal type: Lunch
Contents of the meal: Ham sandwich
Drink: OJ (alcohol was available but I didn't have any)
Comments: Soon after take off, the purser apologised
over the PA that they wouldn't be serving tea or coffee because of turbulence.
The actual flying time was about 30 mins and it was amazing that they
conducted a full snack and bar service.
I think that the low cost airlines like easyJet probably can't compete
with the full service UK airlines (BA or BMI). BMI had about 5 cabin crew
on this flight!

Meal type: refreshment
Contents of the meal: Honey and Oatmeal Biscuits
Drink: Black coffee + Whisky (5ml bottle of Johnnie Walker
Red label)
Comments: Actual flying time was only 30 mins and staff
managed to conduct a full beverage service. bmi UK domestic services have
one major difference with USA domestic flights in that all alcoholic beverages
are free! (I think that BA also offer a free bar on their UK domestic
flights). Well done to bmi.

Meal type: Breakfast
Contents of the meal: Scrambled Egg & Bacon Panini
Drink: OJ
Comments: 06:55 am early departure to Glasgow from LHR.
Hot toasted sandwich. I woke up at 4:15 this day so I welcomed the hot
sandwich which cabin staff served about 5 mins after take off. This was
the first flight of the day to GLA and it was unbelievable that it was
only about 10% full. Check in staff gave me an emergency exit seat in
row 9. Loads of legroom made the flight very comfortable. When the lady
who sat next to me went to the toilet, I took a picture of her tray table
which shows how much legroom there was in row 9 of the A321. Note the
nice bright red bmi carpet which makes the cabin look luxurious.

Flight duration: 5hours
Aircraft type & class: A330 the business
Meal type: appetizer, dinner, dessert
appetizer: california rolls with hand-wrapped spring rolls with sweet
and sour sauce, fresh bread basket.
dinner: risotto stuffed tomatoes, fresh asparagus, grilled seafood skewer
garnished with a balsamico sauce.
dessert: cappuccino mousse with freshly frothed milk.

Comments: BD has simply one of the best longhaul products
to North America. An onboard chef offered to tailor the meal to how hungry
I was and the flight attendant recommended a dessert which was one of
the best i have had onboard.

Meal type: Brunch - Chicken salad roll, dried apricots,
flapjack.
Drink: Tea
Comments: The usual depressing, repetitive and cheaply
presented BMI Business Class meal. 95% full. Why am I still flying them?
It's certainly not for the food. The only reason is that for the same
price as a full fare BA domestic flight you get wider seats on BMI.
