Route: Beijing - Xi'an, 15 Apr 2006
Ticket price:
Flight duration: 1h 30m
Class: economy
Aircraft: Airbus 320
Meal: Lunch - Cold cuts, salad, dried fruit strips, pineapple, a muffin,
and for the main course, it was a choice of batter-covered fish with steamed
rice or spaghetti with a meat sauce.
Drink: Chinese tea, beer, soft drinks
Comments: Departure was at 1055. Being used to the US system of starving
passengers on short haul flights, I was pleasantly surprised to be served
lunch. There was even a choice of entrees. Very good service by a friendly
crew. Note on the return leg of Beijing/Xi'an that departed in the afternoon,
we were given only a bag of mixed nuts.
Watching everyone wolf down their lunch, it obviously must have been delicious
but I had just had a big spread for breakfast so didn't really into it.

Meal: Lunch - Seasoned Beef, Broccoli, Rice, Semi-Sweet Bread, Caesar
Salad, Mixed Fruit
Drink: Mineral Water
Comments: The beef was relatively well seasoned, and the proportions of
rice/broccoli/beef was just right, but not quite big enough to fill my
stomach. The "sweet" bread is notoriously bland and boring,
consistent with all the other reviews. Salad, what can go wrong with that
(besides from rotten leaves)? Fruit was pretty good on my plate, but for
my sister's plate, the grapes were rotted. Water, not much to say...

Comments: The plane have only 35 passengers. However, 6 of them have become
wet by the spillage of water when they are opening the awful tasting "waterman"
water at the right hand corner of the tray. The food itself is excellent,
even taste better than the buy on board meal provided by some US carriers.

more better option

include salad, roll and butter and canned pineapples. salad was not bad
cos the lettuce was crisp enough and the thousand island's dressing was
nice too :) fish had funny taste ( maybe cos it was freshwater fish) and
was not hot enough. Chicken spagaetti came in too small a portion and
I was still hungry after finishing the meal.
Drink: coke for sis and sprite for me :)
Rating: 6 for fish rice and chicken spagaetti
Comments: This time round the service was better and the plane was freezing
cold. ( its better to be cold than hot and sticky) I realise that the

Meal: Dinner
There were two choices for the hot dish. Either chicken with noodles or
pork with rice. The rest were a salad with separate Thousand Island dressing,
a prepacked bread roll, chunks of melon, a packet of 'Blue Diamond' almonds,
a prepackaged water
Drink: coffee, tea, soft drinks. beer
Comments: What disgusting main meals! They did not look
too bad, but the pork rice tasted of plastic only and the chicken noodles
tasted really bland! The 'Waterman' plastic-tasting water was the same.
This did not help our appetites! The salad was ok. The lettuce strips
were crisp, at least. The Thousand Island dressing was a bit too sweet.
The roll was soft, even though it was cold. The melon chunks were fine.
The cold snack on our outbound flight was much better!

Drinks: coffee, tea, soft drinks
Comments: This was much better than we expected. Maybe
we had really low expectationsn to begin with....The potato salad was
fine. The cherry tomato was very sweet and juicy. The cold roast beef
was not too tough. The chicken slices were a bit funny. The layered cake
was soft and not dry and was not too sweet. The 'Waterman' water was disgusting.
It tasted of the plastic of the container!! I noticed that China Eastern
has improved the looks of their trays. Not a bad effort.
