Meal type: Dinner
[179] * Appetizer - salad and giant shrimp
[180] * Main course - salmon with rice and asparagus
[181] * Dessert - hot fudge sundae

Comments: I think Continental’s dinner offerings
in domestic First Class are among the best in the business. The salmon
served on this flight was flavorful but not overpowering, and the sundae
was great as usual.

Flight duration: 2h 55min
Aircraft type & class: Boeing 737-524 First Class
Business or leisure trip: Both
Meal type: Breakfast
[168] - Starter plate of grapes, sliced honeydew, peach, orange, and strawberry.
Cinnamon roll served after tray delivery.
[169] - Main course of scrambled eggs, grilled ham, home fries, and sausage
patty
Drink: Water, 7-Up, Orange Juice (later)
Comments: Better than my last breakfast to IAH, fruit
was pretty good, cinnamon bun was delicious as usual. Eggs were suprisingly
moist and not chewy at all with nice flavor. Home fries and everything
else with the breakfast was good as well. It was an early meal (served
at about 6:20am on 5:40 departure) but at least got me started. Once again,
it's nice to see they haven't cut back like others in First Class.

Meal type: snack (served at 315pm central time)
Contents of the meal: salami, ham, carrots (wih ranch), assorted cheeses,
crackers, grapes, nuts and chocolate
Drink: jack daniels
Comments: For what it was, it was fine. You cant really
mess up the above mentioned items. It looked scimpy, but was actually
just right for a mid day meal. Everything tasted fine. My mother even
leaned over from the row ahead and commented on how simple but adequate
it was. Service was great as always. My brother, sittting next to me,
and I, drank all of the scotch and whiskey on board, but the attendants
were quick to provide alternatives.

Flight Duration: 3 hours

Business or Leisure Trip: Leisure
Meal Type: Breakfast
Contents of the Meal: Fruit Plate, Cinammon Bun, Eggs, Ham, Sausage Patty,
Au Gratin Potatoes
Drink: Milk, Coffee
Comments: I think the picture says it all. This looks
like an old economy breakast served on china. I didn't take a picture
of the fruit plate as it was standard, same for the bun. I just couldn't
believe this was supposed to be a first class meal! There was no menu
to choose from. The only other choice was dry cereal. Boy, I'm glad this
was a complimentary upgrade because paying a full first class fare and
getting this meal would have made me angry. Shame on Continental as I
have up to now had wonderful food in first class.

sweet. Cake was rather forgettable.

Comments: The sandwich was delicious with the salsa.
The fruits were also very fresh. While the cinnamon roll was okay, it
was somewhat stuck on the linen. I would have preferred having the cinnamon
roll on a plate rather than directly on the linen.

Comments: nice meal for a short flight. i would have
really liked it had i liked salmon. Continental is the only airline that
still serves meals at mealtimes on its short flights. They have downgraded
their wine to Rosemount.
They serve the rosemount that sells for $4 a bottle in the store. otherwise,
CO is still great. notice the real knife.

Flying from: Houston to San Diego, 6 September 2003
Ticket price: about $200
Flight duration: 3 hours
Aircraft type & class: First Class (elite upgrade)
Meal type: Dinner
Right after takeoff: water, white wine, mixed nuts.
First course: salad with cesar dressing.
Main course: Penne with creamy pesto sauce and mushrooms, dinner roll.
Dessert: chocolate and caramel cheesecake.
Drink: white wine and water
Comments: Sorry for the blurry main course photo - turbulence!
Continental doesn't do special meals on domestic flights that aren't transcontinental
anymore. I'm a vegetarian so I expected a problem. The salad dressing
had anchovies, so I ate naked salad. The pasta was supposed to come with
shrimp but the crew was nice enough to leave those off for me. All in
all, it was pretty good. On the return flight they had nothing remotely
vegetarian - not even a dinner roll!
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 8 for the food, 9 for the service,
0 for continental not having veggie meals anymore - there are a lot of
us out there!
