Route: Rio de Janeiro - Houston (via Sao Paulo), 18 April 2004
Ticket price: Delta Skymiles - 75,000
Flight duration: GIG - GRU: 41mins; GRU - IAH: 9hrs 23min
Aircraft type & class: Boeing 767-400 / BusinessFirst
Business or leisure trip: Leisure
Meal type: Breakfast

(taken from Continental's Website) :

BREAKFAST
Will be offered prior to arrival

Assorted chilled fruit juices or tomato juice

Fresh seasonal fruit

Freshly baked breads
including warm croissants, Danish pastries and sugar brioche
with butter and strawberry preserves

Omelette with Parsley
Accompanied by grilled veal cocktail sausage,
roesti potatoes and a cherry tomato

Drinks: Orange Juice; Water
Comments: Fruit was fresh and bread was warm; omlette was a little salty, but had a nice taste; Veal sausage was okay, but flight down offered a better selection of ham and sausage; yogurt lacked the tastes - not sure if this was catered in Sao Paulo or brought from Houston, but the breakfast was much better on IAH - GRU than the return.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 6 for the meal; 5 for the BusinessFirst Cabin - not much competition on the route, so I suppose they don't have to provide the level of service provided to Europe or Asia. Very warm in the cabin. The seat wasn't very comfortable, and reminded me of business class seats from the 90s. 10 for the service - flight attendants were amazing on this route; friendly and had a sense of humor; had some of the same crew as the flight down, and was remembered as soon as we boarded in Rio. Even had a drink waiting when we re-boarded in Sao Paulo after the additional security check and.

Business or leisure trip: leisure
Meal type: Breakfast
Bowl of mixed fruits
Cereal with Fruit
OR
Scrambled eggs with a slice of ham, potato gratin and
a tomato
Hot biscuit
Drink: Apple Juice
Comments: I opted for the eggs which came on top of a slice of smoked with potato gratin on the side and a tomato. The eggs were nice, if not a little small but the pepper added some much needed taste. The ham was nice as was the potato gratin. The biscuit was much appreciated and a welcome addition to the meal.

Meal type: Dinner - Sundae
Drink: Water
Comments: We had a choice for this one. The toppings included: nuts, whipped cream, strawberries, chocolate sauce and a cherry. I had everything but the nuts. This was an absolute treat, especially on a domestic flight.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 10 for the sundae & 10 for the service.

Business or leisure trip: leisure
Meal type: Dinner - Mixed Salad with Asian Sesame Salad dressing
Chicken curry with rice and chutney
Warm bun with Land-O-Lakes butter
Drink: Water and Coke
Comments: We had a choice between this and a turkey
burger that I had on my last flight (see pictures 010/011). I would have to say this was a very decent meal for such a flight. The rice was a bit chewy but that’s fine, I won’t complain too much. The salad was fresh and the dressing was nice. The bun was hot and soft, just the way I like it. I am also extremely happy to see that hot meals are available while flying domestically in First. Thanks Continental.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 9 for the food, 10 for the service.

Comments: Nice to see nuts being served in something other than in their original packets. Shows a personal touch especially on domestic flights. I only picked out the cashews from this bowl that contained almonds and pecans as well.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 10 for the presentations, 5 for the nuts

Flight duration: 2 hours & 15 minutes
Aircraft type & class: 737-800 (First)
Business or leisure trip: leisure
Meal type: Lunch - Lobster Bisque soup with ‘Oyster crackers.’ The main course was a turkey burger with bacon and Swiss cheese along with a small tub of potato salad. Accompaniments include an onion slice, lettuce, mustard and ketchup. There was also a “Pecan delight” for dessert. (Bring back the Ghirardelli chocolates will you CO!)
Drink: Coke (CO stop serving Dr. Pepper!)
Comments: The soup was very nice, if not a little too filling. The crackers added a nice touch to it. The burger itself was very nice, but by the bun was very hard. It seems to have spent a little too much time in
the oven. Many passengers opted to drop the bun and just eat the burger and cheese with a fork and a knife. I opted to do the same as well after a bite or two.

Meal type: Dinner
Contents of the meal: garden salad with vinaigrette dressing, main course grilled chicken and pasta with a white wine sauce and shredded mozzarella, desert raspberry cheesecake
Drink: white wine, coffee and Bailey’s (not pictured)
Comments: I usually fly United First, and I was actually impressed with Continental’s service up front. I liked how they brought the courses separately; United usually has all on one tray for flights under 5 hours. The salad was very fresh and tasty, the pasta and chicken much better than it looked, and the cheesecake was GREAT! CO does have superb fresh, warm soft dinner rolls as well. Overall very good meal.
