Route: Amsterdam to Atlanta, 22 Nov 2003
Flight duration: 9h15
Aircraft type: Boeing 777-200, Business, Leisure trip
Meal type: Lunch
101 - Shrimp and seared scallops, salad with balsamic vinaigrette; pretzel
bread
102, 103 - Filet mignon steak with peppercorn sauce, spinach, yellow peppers
and scalloped potatos; ciabbata bread
104 - Ice cream sundae with fudge and caramel sauces
Drink: Champagne; Languedoc merlot; Italian dessert wine; coffee and water
Comments: Appetizers on Delta always sound better on
the menu than they actually are. This one is a case in point: unimpressive
scallops and shrimp both in taste and size. Salad is boring. However main
course was truly excellent: beef was cooked just right. Potatos were a
bit cold however.
Dessert was fine but the ice cream on Delta always has an unfrozen-frozen
texture to it which is most unpleasant. Great Italian dessert wine!

Meal type: Lunch
Antipasto plate with Prosciutto, Parmesan cheese, marinated onion, Kalamata
olive and Sun dried tomato
Salad with Olive oil and Balsamic Vinaigrette
Pan roasted South American Tenderloin of Beef
Fruit and cheese
Ice cream
Drink:
Tsarine Chanoine 1998 Champagne
Amber's Paddock, Sauvignon Blanc, 2002, Marlborough, New Zealand
Concannon, Petite Syrah, Livermore, California
Ferreira Port
Cabert Verduzzo Friulano white dessert wine
Baileys & Amaretto
Comments:
Antipasto plate was very tasty indeed. Sauvignon Blanc was grapefruity
and was OK. Salad was tedious. Beef was surprisingly yummy and was actually
red inside - the way I like it. Until now I've been under a misapprehension
that airlines must cook everything out of their meat. Whether this was
by design or not I don't know! Concannon was OK. Cheese was good and served
at the same time as dessert which is a new thing. Not sure if I prefer
it this way or not, but I certainly wasn't fussed about it. Port was OK
but the Cabert was extraordinarily delicious. Had to take a couple of
extra glasses it was so good. Dessert lacked much excitement, but was
good all the same. Finished off with a Baileys & Amaretto but unsurprisingly
I fell asleep before I'd had more than a couple of sips. FA gave me a
bottle of the Cabert to take home with me. All in all surprisngly good.

Route: Las Vegas (LAS) to Atlanta (ATL), 2 Nov 2003
Ticket price: £2,000 (return)
Flight duration: 4 hours
Aircraft type & class: 767, First
Business or leisure trip: Leisure
Meal type: Breakfast
Cheese omelette on ham muffin and potato; cinnamon bun; small fruit bowl.
Drink: Gin & Tonic, Amstel Light beer
Comments: You can't do Vegas justice without having a
couple of beers with your breakfast, and a G&T to start you off. Food
wasn't too bad, but warm bun was too dry by the time I got to that course
- would have been better to deliver the buns later on in the meal service
to keep them fresh.
