Route: New York JFK - Los Angeles, 22 Dec 2003
Flight duration: 5h37m
Aircraft type: Boeing 767-300ER
Class: Business Elite, Leisure trip
Meal type: Dinner
Contents: Green salad with ranch dressing, crabmeat canapés, pumpkin ravioli with chicken
Drink: California red wine
Comments: Delta's inflight meal service has really gone down the hill. I barely fly the airline anymore and I am a "Million Miler" with the airline. However, this ravioli was actually quite pleasant. You could really taste the pumpkin - one of my favourite foods! How sad the salad and the canapés are trying to make a name for themselves on the dinner tray - an afterthought!

Route: Atlanta to San Jose, Costa Rica, 20 Oct 2004
Ticket price: $550 Canadian (return)
Flight duration: 4 hours
Aircraft type & class: Economy
Business or leisure trip: Leisure
Meal type: Vegetarian
Contents of the meal: Very bland pasta with tomato sauce and what seemed to be asparagus. Green salad, decent balsamic dressing, whole wheat bun with margarine, and brownie for dessert.
Drink: Coke
Comments: I forgot to take this picture until half-way through the meal......I ate the whole thing, but it wasn't very good. The past was really flavourless; the dessert was the best thing even though it was excessively sweet.

Meal: Buy On Board (Dinner)
Roast Beef Focaccia Sandwich with lettuce and tomato slices, salt, pepper, mustard and mayo packaged on the side, ($8.00)
Drink:: Ginger Ale (not shown)
Comments: A box with a generous and filling sandwich, condiments, napkin and plastic knife. The beef was rare, which was fine for my taste. The bread was getting a little hard to hold from the roast beef juices. It was good that the lettuce and tomato were provided separately. A larger napkin would have helped. The box lid was a bit awkward to handle because it would not lie flat and the plastic wrap was too stiff to provide a lining for the box; on the other hand, the lid was useful for storing the condiments. Sales did not seem very brisk, but this item seemed to be priced reasonably.

Drink:: White wine (no choice of types- just "white" or "red"
Comments: Poor Delta. It's been a few years since I last rode Delta-and what a heartbreak this trip was. They have made draconian cuts on their first class product-shamefully so. The picture you are seeing would have been a "coach meal" on any airline 5 years ago-but it now passes for "first class" on Delta- except you don't even get a choice of "chicken" or Beef" on Delta ..The Delta flight attendants are justifiably embarrassed by this idiotic corporate decision when serving.
I'm glad I cashed in the last of my DL miles and now bid adios forever to DL-

Meal: Special Request, Gluten Free
Salmon with tomato sauce, potatoes, carrots, and green beans; green leaf lettuce and tomato salad with vinagrette; sliced kiwifruit, pineapple, and cantaloupe; mini loaf of gluten free wheat bread; and a piece of cheddar cheese.
Drink:: water (and then cups of tea afterwards)
Comments: Quite allright, really. The salad was very small and consisted of 1 cherry tomato cut in half, and a leaf of lettuce torn into quarters, but tasty. The salmon was quite nice and the tomato sauce was rather zingy. The potatoes were fabulous with the butter, and my only complaints would be that the carrots and beans tasted very much like they had come from a tin, and the fruit was so cold that the flavours really didn't come through. I'm sure the bread was fine, although it felt as dense as a brick, but I didn't eat it as it contained soy.

Drink:: Sprite and Cranberry Juice, several times.
Comments: This was $8. I tried to include as much as I could for the Contents of the meal- but only half of what they gave was edible. I felt bad for the passengers that did not buy any food because they did not even serve pretzels or peanuts!!! That is quite shocking for such a long flight! But hey, I got to fly on a Delta 777!!! Overall, the flight was excellent, and the service was great!
