Route: Honolulu to Los Angeles, 31 Mar 2004
Ticket price: nonrev ticket
Flight duration: approx 5 hours
Aircraft type & class: Boeing 767-300ER, F Class
Business or leisure trip: Leisure
Meal type: Drinks and dinner
Gourmet Mix with the drinks and for the dinner we had the choice of either barbeque chicken pizza or a trio of croissant sandwiches with cheese, ham and turkey and fresh fruits. Desert was a chocolate brownie
Drink: Guava nectar for me and Korbel Champagne for my partner and followed by a glass of Californian Gewurtztraminer
Comments: Gourmet mix contains bretzels, macadamia nuts, almonds and some sort of cheese crackers. The pizza was nice but most of the passengers chose the trio of sandwiches. Very nice crew, great service and my favourite hawaiian drink, Guava nectar ! The Champagne and the white wine were not really good, the Gewurtztraminer was extremely sweet !

Meal type: Dinner
Barbecue Chicken served with potatoes and veggies, Salad, Cookie, Roll
Drink: Sprite
Comments: Pretty good though the veggies were overcooked and soggy and there was not quite enough barbecue sauce. The salad was also pretty small compared to the SFO-HNL leg. The desert (cookie) was not quite up to par either.

Comments: This meal was much better than the last meal I had on Hawaiian (Chicken Enchilada). It was tasty and quite filling. The F/As were very nice, but one seemed to be in a bad mood (few smiles), though she was very pleasant.

Ticket price: nonrev ticket
Flight duration: 5 hours 30 minutes
Aircraft type & class: Boeing 767-300ER, Y Class
Business or leisure trip: Leisure
Meal type: Snack
Contents of the meal: Turkey and cheese sandwich, banana and nut cake, tropical bretzel mix
Drink: Guava nectar
Comments: Great sandwich from Hawaiian Air. Moist and tasty. Loved the bread which tasted like brioche. It was adequate enough for the flight even though the length was 5 hours and 30 minutes. The cake was a nightmare though, I have a very sweet tooth but I couldn't eat as it was very dry !!! Like eating raw flour. I love guava juice and have been drinking it on every leg of my trip with HA. Before arrival we were served coffee and OJ.

Flying from: SAN to HNL, 12 August 2003
Meal type: Dessert - Chocolate Chip Cookie pie "a la mode" Not bad,
though very dense. Ice cream was a good touch. Coffee and Baileys on
the rocks (which I had to suggest) Again open cart service.
Overall level of food service has gone downhill on Hawaiian. Flights are
full. Exec Chef Bev Gannon can do (and has in the past, done) much
better than this.

Flying from: SAN to HNL, 12 August 2003
Meal type: Dinner - main course of Hawaiian Plate lunch Kalbi Rib, Terriyaki Chicken, Sticky Rice and Potato Mac salad. This was OK but nowhere near what we got the last time we flew HA. In fact plate lunches have the rap of being the cheapest food on the islands. Drink is a different 2001 Babcock Chardonnay. Not cold enough but refreshing to the palate. You could not think about red wine with this food. Before was Mai Tai.

Ticket price: $620rt plus $250 upgrade
Flight duration: 5 hrs
Aircraft type & class: 767-300 1st Class
Meal type: Dinner - Salmon Timbale with Lemon wedge, tomato & capers. This was all of 2 mouthfuls but tasty. The presentation is another world compared to Economy.
Drink: Various
Comments: See Below
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 7
HA used to have a wonderful First Class and their $250 upgrade space "A" program is excellent.
Nowadays you can see cost cutting measures everywhere. Still out of all the major carriers they really give you a good feel of the Islands.

Ticket price: $560 round trip
Flight duration: 6 hr
Aircraft type and class: 737 economy
Meal type: regular dinner - Vegetarian meatloaf
Drink: Ginger Ale
Comments: This was awful. My bf recommended ordering the vegetarian saying that it is a better meal. It wasn't even edible. It was some kind of vegetarian meatloaf made with pinto beans and veggies, mashed potatoes, and squash that would have been good if they hadn't put a ton of rosemary on it (really, a little goes a long way and it was A LOT). The salad that I had on my incoming flight regular meal was good compared to this one (and I don't know why it was different). No dessert.
Rating 1-10: 1, it was not edible

Meal type: regular dinner - Asian stirfry
Drink: Cola
Comments: It was just ok. No better than a t.v. dinner. The meat and veggies were on spagetti noodles though, not ramen. I like the little cookies and the salad dressing was a vinegarette which was good. Way better salad than with my vegitarian meal and I don't know why.
Rating 1-10: 5 it was edible
