Comments: IBERIA 1st March, 2006. GIG/MAD BusinessPlus. Travelling on
a OneWorld RTW ticket, I boarded the flight in Rio De Janeiro and was
very pleasantly surprised at the space and cleanliness of the cabin. This
was an A340 600 model plane and quite new. The seat was very comfortable
with an almost fully flat recline. I am 6’2” and although
I was unable to lay fully stretched out, managed to sleep for a few hours
on what was a 9 hour flight. The IFE system on this aircraft must be the
most advanced I have ever seen. It is very easy to use and completely
“on-demand”. This was a late afternoon flight and a comprehensive
cabin service was offered which included pre takeoff Cava, in flight cocktails,
and choices of three main courses and two desserts.
The Flight Attendants were very friendly and professional. A couple of
hours prior to landing in Madrid, a full breakfast was served. Overall,
the service on this flight approximated what is often delivered as 1st
class on other airlines, and as such represents excellent value. My only
gripe is that the cabin was a bit overheated for my liking.
On arrival in Madrid, I was further surprised with the new Terminal 4
which must be the largest and most automated air terminal in the world.
The speed of baggage delivery needs to be improved though. One hour is
far too long to wait.

COMMENTS Tasty but not as nice as the one in the inbound flight. The hot

since that Iberia has dropped meal on most of European destinations, I

Comments: The new Iberia short haul economy service is

"Menù Iberico") I spent 9,00EUR. I was a bit disappointed
to discover that the "tapas" mentioned in the menu card were
in fact a sandwich. Nevertheless I changed my mind upon savouring it as
the quality of this simple snack was very high, with the ciabatta-like
bread being crusty and fresh and the ham very tasty. The apple muffin

Flying from: ORD to MAD, 9 June 2003

Meal: Dinner- The choices were "chicken or
beef". That reminded
me of the "good old days" but I wish it would have been more
up to
date as most other airlines are on the Transatlantic routes.
One can't really see that I chose beef. With it were some peas and
carrots. Also brown sauce and mashed potatos with onions (at least that
was my interpretation). The side was a shrimp cocktail, a bun and
apfelstrudel for dessert.
Drink: Diet Coke
Comments: The main course was pretty bland. Not a lot
else to say
about it. Not horrible but most certainly not good either. The shrimp
cocktail was okay. The onions in there were a flavorful surprise. The
bun, typical for Y-class. The dessert was fine overall. Luckily it was
FAR
better than the hideous paella I had on the way to the US.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): To be fair I'd say a 4 overall.

Drink: white spanish wine from Penedès
Comments: Except for the bread (the big lack in Iberia),
quite good

Flying from: SCQ to MAD on the 26th July 2003
Ticket price: 136 euros
Aircraft type and class: A320 in Business Class
Meal: Breakfast - Fruit salad, fresh orange juice,
coffee, hot bread, pumpkin pastry, omelette, chicken breast, and ham
Drink: coffee and juice
Comments: nice breakfast but one has to rush, since the
flying time is only 25 minutes. Although the hot meal was tasteful, it
was a bit hard for vegetarians, or for not meat lovers. So instead of
the huge amount of meat, some veggies (roast tomatoes, mushrooms or beans)
could be appreciated
