Aircraft type & class: Boeing 747-400, Business
Meal type: Dessert - Mango Mousse with Pineapple Sauce
Comments: "A most refreshing dessert, sending my thoughts straight to
the tropics. It must have been a perfectly ripe mango. One more glass
of Heidsieck bubbly, thank you."
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 10

Meal type: Salad: Chinese Cabbage, Lamb's Lettuce, Radicchio and Red Beet Julienne, presented with Basil Dressing.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 3. The accompanying salad was - shall we say - very wintery? But more bubbly made up for this disappointment ...
Meal type: Entrée: Lemon Sole Roulade in spicy Lobster Fond accompanied by Venus Rice.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 7. The sole was quite bland, unfortunately, but the sauce and julienned vegetables were absolutely wonderful. The wild rice added a nice bite to the dish. Although tempted by the offered 2001 Rueda Verdejo, I elected to continue with the Heidsieck bubbly.

Meal type: Lunch - Hors d'oeuvre: Venison Galantine and Apple Celery Salad offered with Lingonberries and Walnuts.
Comments: "The Galantine was exceptionally tasty (nice pistachio bits!), particularly in conjunction with the lingonberry sauce. My suggestion for improvement: A simple crust around the pate. The walnuts were a nice accompaniment to the apple celery salad."

Meal type: Lunch - As part of its "Connoisseurs on Board" promotion, Lufthansa's November menu was designed by Justin Quek, one of Singapore's most acclaimed chefs. Aperitif: Heidsieck Heritage Champagne, accompanied by raw nuts.
Comments: "Wonderfully crisp bubbly, replenished frequently by most attentive LH-steward. Two packs of raw nuts (personally I prefer the roasted
variety)."

Flying from: Munich to Rome, 17 November 2002
Class: Economy
Meal type: Dinner/snack - Sorry for the bad quality of the picture. The mini tray was anyway offering a micro pasta salad with a brunoise of vegetables, a slice of cold turkey, a slice of cured ham, a piece of cheese on red lettuce and a cherry tomato as entree. Dessert was provided in the form of a Toblerone chocolate bar. A Knackebrot wholesome cracker was on the tray as well, while a warm roll was provided afterwards.
Drink: I had a Coke, but the drinks trolley was offering a good selection of soft drinks/juices and wine as well.
Comments: "Not too bad: the food was acceptable, although very much standard airline fare, but in these days of cut throat competition and low fares, and considering that the flying time is actually less than 70 minutes, it was more than acceptable. It came with a good attitude from the stewardesses, and - strange to believe it these days! - a metal cutlery set including a knife."

Flying from: Denver DEN to Frankfurt FRA, 6 November 2002
Class: Economy
Meal type: Dinner - Lasagna with a Caesar Salad, bread and butter and Squeezed Zombie for desert
Drink: Cup of tea and water
Comments: "After spending some time in the Rocky Mountains we should have known it would be a rocky flight aswell. Especially after getting this 'fabulous' American cuisine on our plates. But even the terribly greasy lasagne with an ominously tasting cheese and the stuffy salad with tacky 'croutons' could not prepare us for a taste of the Undead when we tried the desert. We think the picture above says more than a thousand words... Why didn't they bring food from Germany for God's sake?"

Meal type: Breakfast - Cheese ommelette with bacon and tomato, bread and butter, cheese spread and fruit
Drink: Cup of tea and water
Comments: "The American breakfast was much better than its dinner counterpart on the same flight - or was it because it we were so hungry after the horrible flight, movie and dinner? All we remember is that it tasted very well..."

Flying from: Denver DEN to Frankfurt FRA, April 2002
Class: First
Meal type: Breakfast
Drink: Coffee, water and OJ
Comments: "From the menu: "Freshly squeezed orange juice; Fresh Fruit; Yogurt, Cereal, Musli with Almonds and Strawberries and Milk; Bread, Rolls, Ciabatta, Toast, Bagel, Croissants, Muffins and Danish Pastries with Cream Cheese, Butter, Diet Margarine, Preserves and Honey; A variety of Cold Cuts featuring Westphallian Ham, smoked Turkey Breast, Cheddar and Emmental Cheese." Then came a main course of "Scrambled Eggs freshly prepared upon request accompanied by Bacon or Chives" or "Cheese Blintz enhanced by fresh Fruit Compote." A last-minute continental breakfast was also available. I especialy liked the eggs and bacon; I like crisp bacon and that's how it came. Whew -- those Germans can eat! Only me and one other passenger had the full spread."

Class: First
Meal type: Dinner (after) chocolates
Drink: Graham's port and decaf (it got a bit bumpy so it sloshed a bit). Comments: After the main course came a cheese course "Manchego, Brie,
Port-Salut and Petit Basque." Next was a choice of chocolate mousse or bread and butter pudding. I had a bit of both. Finally was these chocolates. The crew was literally begging me to try everything. I had to comply, of course.

Class: First
Meal type: Dinner main course
Drink: More of that nice, expensive Champagne (I think I had a bottle to myself).
Comments: From the menu: "Grouper Ligurian-style with grilled Calamaretti, Olives and Herb Pesto." This was the "Connoisseurs on Board" selection from
Markus Nagy of the Villa Hammerschmiede restaurant in Pfinztal-Sollingen near the Black Forest (a recipe insert came inside the large menu, along with a
"Vinothek Discoveries" wine insert. All of the wines were on display on a console at the front of the cabin. The dish had lots of olive oil, artichokes and olives to go with the fish and calimari (very tender, btw). Again, I wanted one of those lemon-squeezers but I refrained. The other choices were "Tricolor Ravioli with Spinach and Mushrooms," "Asian-style Breast of Chicken" and "Grilled Pork Chop with a Caraway Jus." A real 7-course meal.

Drink: Champagne (Laurent-Perrier 1990 Cuvee Grand Siecle)
Comments:
"The Lufthansa F-class trademark: a red rose that is then placed in a holder at the front of the seat. Here's a menu transcript: Caviar with the traditional Garnishes; Spicy Shrimp served with a Snow Pea Salad; Porcini-dusted Tenderloin of Beef offered with a Fava Bean and Watermelon Compote. Next came a salad with red pepper or blue cheese dressing. A nice assortment of rolls was presented throughout the meal. The caviar came with onion, capers and little bits of toast; delicious! I had the shrimp that was just a bit spicy and then a bit of the beef which was incredibly tender. Service as the best I've ever had with 2 flight attendants serving just 7 passengers. The crew encouraged me to try everything and called me by name over and over. The white plastic knife stands out against the elegant serving pieces (I really wanted to take those S and P shakers with me but didn't)."
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 9.5, mostly for the knife.

Meal type: Lunch - Shrimp over fresh greens with Asparagus and sun dried tomato in a light vinaigrette. Warm rolls with butter. Chocolate to finish.
Drink: Bottled Water with a nice white wine served after the photo was taken
Comments: "Lufthansa you did it. On a 50 minute flight that any US airline would struggle to toss out the peanuts, you manage a full beverage service and serve this very good light lunch."
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 10
