Flying From: Kuala Lumpur to Manila
Flight Duration 3.5 hours
Aircraft Type/Class MH 704Q / Economy
Meal: Chicken in Mystery sauce with steamed broccoli siding, Cold Shrimp Salad, Chiffon roll with cream filling; bread roll
Drink: Choice of coffee, tea or orange juice.
Comments: Had it not been for the airline plastic containers fitted snugly on the tray, this meal could pass for hospital food. My hubby stared miserably at his serving of unappetizing boring, bland chicken dish with sauce that remains yet to be identified. The dressing of the cold shrimp salad was watery and the baby shrimps itself had a fishy smell. As for dessert, there was this chiffon roll stuffed with a fruity cream filling. After this meal, I just convinced him that high altitudes dulled one’s taste buds and a plane is certainly one of the few places where picky eaters are well catered for.
Rating: My generous hubby was supposed to rate it a 2, but settled for a 1 because of the stale bread which seems to be a staple in all Malaysian Airline flights.

Flight Duration 3.5 hours
Aircraft Type/Class MH 704Q / Economy
Meal: Breaded Fish with Braised Noodles (again), Cold Shrimp Salad (again), Chiffon roll with cream filling; bread roll
Drink: Choice of coffee, tea or orange juice.
Comments: A wave of disappointment washed over me as I peeled back the foil cover to reveal a really dry hunk of breaded fish. Never mind if it was repeat of the fish dish I had on the flight going to Malaysia, but this time they skipped the sauce and replaced the steamed veggies with two strips of bell peppers for added color. Let’s mot mention about the braised noodles anymore. I resolved to stop poking at the brown gob on my tray and reached for the stash in my hand carry…. a KFC colonel burger.
Rating: Food really sucked.… I’m giving it a 1 because of the good service

Meal Type: Chicken Curry with steamed buttered veggies; Cold Shrimp Salad; Chocolate Mousse; & Bread roll
Drink: Choice of coffee, tea or orange juice.
Comments: This meal was going to be a prelude of our culinary adventure that Malaysia had in store for us. Truly a Malay specialty, chicken curry at it’s best, chunks of chicken cooked in fiery yellow curry and creamy coconut milk with the perfect accompaniment of steamed jasmine rice and veggies. Bring out the satay!!!

Meal Type: Breaded Fish in black bean garlic sauce; Braised Noodles and Steamed Bok Choy. Cold Shrimp Salad; Chocolate Mousse; bread roll
Drink: Choice of coffee, tea or orange juice.
Comments: During transit at Kota Kinabulu, we were served an appetizer of steamed baby shrimps in light mayo dressing, garnished with a cherry tomato. Followed by a fillet of breaded snapper laden with black bean garlic sauce, the fish was fork tender but the sauce tasted exactly like the brown sauce on the chicken I had earlier in the flight. The braised noodles were somewhat dry and starchy while the steamed bok choy was fresh and crisp. The meal was capped off with a slice of chocolate mousse, it had a really light creamy melt-in-your-mouth texture

Meal Type: Snack - Beef Lasagna and steamed broccoli siding, Cold mixed seafood noodle, Fruitcake topped with raspberry preserve, and bread roll
Drink: Choice of coffee, tea or orange juice.
Comments: This in-flight grub was perfect for the mid-afternoon plane ride. Overcooked broccoli lay helplessly beside the toppled mound of soggy noodles, smothered with ground beef , cheese, and tomato sauce. My hubby said it was tasty snack as he finished it mopping off the sauce with the stale bread.

Meal Type: Snack - Chicken in brown sauce with steamed Jasmine Rice & carrots siding, Cold mixed seafood noodle, Fruitcake topped with raspberry preserve, bread roll
Drink: Choice of coffee, tea or orange juice.
Comments: The meal started off with a hefty portion of steamed shrimps laid on top of a bed of chilled mung bean noodles tossed in soy dressing and slivers of red peppers. A squeeze of lemon balanced the spicy and sweet flavors. The main course was bite-sized, moist chicken tenders sauteed in black beans and oyster sauce. Accompanied with jasmine rice and steamed carrots. For dessert, the slab of fruitcake topped with raspberry preserve was too rich for me. Except for the stale bread, the meal was pretty good and filling.

Flying from: Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu, 24 January 2003
Aircraft type/class: Boeing 737-400/Economy
Meal type: Breakfast - What's in the meal: Plain omelette with chicken sausage, grilled tomato, mash potatoes and chicken sausage, dessert - lychees, prune and orange in syrup, mini kit kat chocolate.
Drink: Orange juice, coffee and mango juice (not in picture) and coke (not in picture)
Comments: "That is why Malaysia Airlines is one of the best when it comes to inflight services. The airline served us full breakfast (in economy) even for a two hour journey. Cabin crew were warm and friendly as expected. Not surprising they got the best cabin crew award for 2002!! Upon airborne, mango juice was served. After 20 minutes, they served us breakfast with two choices (either omelette or rice with chicken). I took omelette. Well cooked as it wasn't dry. Taste like an omelette prepared at home. The chicken sausage was very tasty and with combined mash potatoes and juicy grilled tomatoes, the whole meal was delicious. Fruits in syrup were good with kit kat being subsituted for a yogurt. Coffee was perfect although not brewed like in the business class. Orange juice tasted like a fresh one. I also had a can of coke before landing. The best part, MAS served us with stainless stell utensils."

Flying from: Newark EWR to Dubai DXB, 4 January 2003
Aircraft type: Boeing 777-200 Economy Class
Meal type: Breakfast - (taken direct from menu handed out prior to departure) Chilled Orange Juice, Seasonal Fresh Fruits, Yoghurt, Western Omelette served with Hash-brown Potato, Tomato and Green Peas, Croissant with Jam and Butter.
Drink: Orange Juice on tray and tea poured as the meal was handed out.
Comments:
"Okay so here we have an omelette...it was more like scrambled eggs with a speck or two of green and red peppers...no cheese so it was quite bland. The hash-brown was very greasey so the entire meal sat it grease. Thus, the peas were very soggy as was the grilled tomato. The frest fruit (grapes, orange slices, grapefruit, pineapple) was indeed very fresh and plentiful but is hiding under the croissant. The croissant was served warm and seconds were offered. The peach yoghurt was very good as was the orange juice. The other options on the flight were Chicken Oriental with Egg Fried Rice, Carrots and Green Beans OR an Indian Vegetarian Breakfast Selection with Vermicelli Upma Complemented with Coconut Chutney (these choices seemed to be the quite a bit more popular than the omelette and from what I saw the Chicken Oriental looked really good...wish I would've chosen it!) Btw, received an omelette again on the way home and it was of better quality than this one thanks to the food, meal, catering in Dubai as oppossed to that in Newark."
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 4 for meal (9.9 if service could be included...go MAS!)

Flying from: Newark EWR to Dubai DXB, 3 January 2003
Aircraft type: Boeing 777-200 Economy Class
Meal type: Lunch - (taken direct from menu handed out prior to departure) - Appetizer of paprika chicken breast with potato salad; Main course of stir fried cod fish in hoisin sauce served with steamed rice and pak choy; cheese and crackers, chocolate fudge, soft country bread stick, haagen daz vanilla ice cream.
Drink: Water with meal and any selection of beer, spirits, or soft drinks from drink cart. Tea or coffee delivered after meal.
Comments: "Probably the freshest meal I have ever eaten on ANY flight. Cod was tender, pak choy and rice were steamed just to the right amount (not soggy), and the piece of cold chicken on top of the potato salad in the appetizer was large enough to be a meal alone (was actually much bigger than it appears in picture), butter crackers were shaped like butterfly’s, fudge cake was a bit rich for my liking, and ice cream was delivered after tea and coffee and was so frozen that by the time they came to collect the empty containers, people were just beginning to be able to dip into it. All in all, a superb meal with extraordinary service."
