Comments: In addition to the high class treatment received at Portugalia

cold meal served at an unusual meal time for portuguese and spanish customers
(6:00 pm) on a very short flight confirms that award winning "Private

european in-flight product.

Route: Oporto to Bilbao, 21 May 2004
Flight Duration: 1hr 10min
Class: Economy/Business class on SAAB2000 turboprop.
Meal type: Hot Lunch
What was in the meal?: A small size tray featuring a cole slaw on salad,
a hot main of beef cassarole with baby potatoes and carrots, spreadable
cheese and crackers.
Drink: Signature 2000 Mateus Portuguese red wine and
sparkling water out of a good range of drinks.
Comments: A pleasant hot light lunch on this lightly
laden flight. This is
sort of an upgraded Economy product, featuring hot meals partly served
on Business Class china, using Portugàlia's very classy design
on Vista Alegre porcelainware. a cotton napkin was provided as well, but
glasses and cutlery were plastic.

and cheese, tomato wedge and prune, a yogurth drink, strawberry jam and
butter, a roll, a croissant.
Drink: Pineapple juice out of a good range of drinks.

Full marks, anyway, being 2004 and economy class in Europe!

Route: Turin to Madrid, 21 May 2004
Flight Duration: 1hr 50
Class: Economy class on Fokker 100 jet.
Meal type: Hot breakfast
A small size tray featuring a hot dish of omelette, served on a slice
of pork loin, with spinach, mushrooms and cherry tomato, a roll, strawberry
jam and butter, a strawberry cheesecake yogurth, multiple hot croissants
offerings.
Drink: Pineapple juice and lemon tea out of a good selection
of juices and other beverages.
Comments: Portugalia still provides its economy class
passengers with a completely satisfying food, meal, catering product. I'd say the
quality has even improved over last year, on this same route: the hot
plate was excellent, the yogurth was tasty and yummy, and the croissants
very fresh and offered meny times. Very nice pineapple juice and great
service from the three ladies attending the flight.
Considering this was economy class, full applause to Portugàlia.

Flying from: Madrid to Turin, 9 June 2003
Flight Duration: 1hr 50
Class: Economy class on Fokker 100 jet.
Meal type: Hot Dinner - A small size tray featuring a
julienne of carrots
with two cucumber slices and a baby corn cob, a hot main meal of beef
casserole with rice and peas, spreadable cheese and crackers.
Drink: Signature 2000 Mateus Portuguese red wine and
sparkling water
out of a good range of drinks.
Comments: Not really a full dinner. In this case Portugalia
has been
cutting a bit too much around the costs: the beef casserole was really
tiny - and just average quality - and there was no trace of fruits or
a
dessert. Good thing, though, that they still provide a hot meal in
economy on flights lasting less than two hours.

Flying from: Turin to Madrid, 9 June 2003
Flight Duration: 1hr 50
Class: Economy class on Fokker 100 jet.
Meal type: Hot breakfast - A small size tray featuring
a hot dish of scrambled eggs with cheese, served on a bread slice, diced
potatoes and rolled bacon, strawberry jam and butter, a banana yogurth,
multiple hot croissants offerings.
Drink: Orange juice and lemon tea out of a good selection
of juices and other beverages.
Comments: Despite also Portugalia having cut on food, meal, catering
costs - at least in economy - this was still a really enjoyable full hot
breakfast, quite a rarity these days on a flight lasting slightly less
than 2 hours. Scrambled eggs and bacon were very tasty and well cooked.
Pity that stainless cutlery has been replaced by disposable plastic ware
and the offering of cream puffs that followed the tray service when I
flew this same sector less than two years ago has been cut.
