Route: LED (St. Petersburg) - SXF (Berlin-Schönefeld), 29 Sep 2005
Ticket price: n/a
Flight duration: 2h 10m
Class: economy
Aircraft: TU-154M
Meal: Breakfast - Smoked salmon, salami, cheese, cherry tomato, 2 black olives, kapusta (cabbage), 2 not too fresh rolls, muffin filled with jam, butter
Drink: Multivitamin juice and tea (light alcoholic beverages also available)
Comments: Pulkovo still serves a nice full meal on their international flights. This seems to be their standard breakfast (and also main meal when served without a warm dish). They also serve alcohol free of charge, however the wines they serve are horrible - but good beer (since the flight was at 8am I however opted for juice).

Route: Paris (CDG) - St. Petersburg (LED) , 14 Nov 2004
Ticket price: n/a
Flight duration: 2h 45m
Class: economy
Aircraft: Tupolev Tu-154
Meal: lunch - main - Seafood salad
Shrimp with Lemon
Boeuf Bourguignon Piperade
Roasted potatoes
Brie
French roll (crisp and delicious)
President butter
Crumb cake
Coffee/tea, mineral water, lemonade, soft drinks, beer (Nevskoe, delicious), red wine (Merlot) from Bordeaux, white (Sauvignon Blanc) and Alsatian Riesling.
Drink: Beer (Nevskoe)
Comments:
A superb meal, chunks of soft, fragrant beef stewed in Burgundy wine with peppers and delicious roasted potatoes. Salad was outstanding too. Cheese – well, I like brie at any time, but here it complimented the main course just perfectly. This is an excellent lunch for economy class on an intra-European route, served by friendly Pulkovo cabin crew. Wine – did not try their wine this time although normally I drink wine in France (on the ground or stick with mineral water). Beer – delicious, cold St. Petersburg brewed Nevskoe, I had like six or seven cans during the flight. No full bar service but people who wish to have cognac or whisk/e/y in flight (I am not one of them) can buy hard liquor duty free. Flying with Pulkovo is an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately I can’t it higher than 10 (10 for economy class food, 10 for beverages, 10 for service).

Route: St. Petersburg (LED) - Paris, Charles de Gaulle (CDG),
5 Dec 2004
Ticket price: EUR 330 round trip / no discounts
Flight duration: 2h 45m
Class: economy
Aircraft: Tupolev Tu 154
Meal: lunch - main - appetizer:
sliced Danish-style salami
Oilve (a single one, just one, what a pity!)
butter
excellent Russian cheese
wholegrain roll
main course:
pork and beef rissole
macaroni in gravy,
green peas and corn
Russian rye bread
desert:
Magdalenas (Spanish tea cake)
tea, coffee,
also juices, soft drinks, mineral water, beer, red wine, white table wine
Drink: red wine
Comments: The food was not that bad but could have been even better. The risolle or what the Germans call die Frikadelle is to Russian (rublenaia or minced) kotleta, and like for Germans it is somewhat of a culinary staple - ground beef and pork, with mild spices, formed into patty and either friend or grilled. The macaroni it was served with were bland. Nothing spectacular but still better than what most other European airlines serve on their flights. When it comes to beverages Pulkovo is generous – as this picture testifies – three cups of red wine right away just because I hinted I’d like more wine with my meal, and wine kept flowing until the landing . The wine, Bordeaux (Appelation Bordeaux Controlee, 2001), table wine, I think it was Chateau Le Perrier, was very fruity and dry – good stuff. They also had some merlot. I didn’t try the white wine. No beer this time. Would have given it 10 but that would do injustice to their other flights.

Route: Paris (CDG) - St. Petersburg (LED) , 21 Oct 2004
Ticket price: EURO 320 round trip - standard fare
Flight duration: 2h 45m
Class: economy
Aircraft: Tupolev Tu-154
Meal: lunch - main - Mixed salad
Shrimp with lemon
boeuf bourguignonne
with stewed carrots and potatos
French President butter
Brie
Pastry
Coffee, tea, mineral water, juices, soft drinks, beer, red wine, white wine (full bar service is unavailable, see notes)
Drink: decent red Bordeaux wine with the meal, beer (Baltika) during the flight
Comments: Pulkovo flights from Paris to St. Pete have better food than the meals served during flights from Russia’s Northern capital to the capital of France. The reason for that is that they get their food in Russia for Paris-bound flight but restock again in Paris for the return flight, and the French food, meal, catering company they use in Paris is excellent. The meal itself is a delicious experience. In the city of St. Petersburg you would actually have to go out to a French restaurant and pay good money to eat like that. In either case Pulkovo’s economy class food, either to or from Paris, is outstanding by today’s standards of intra European flights (although I must admit that Air France food and service is not worse, it is one of very few airlines that is actually a joy to dine with albeit like Lufthansa they recently started cutting corners and on some flights are using too much pasta and other kind not descript carbohydrate stuff). Beverage choice aboard is limited to soft drinks and semingly unlimited supply of wine and beer, but if you want hard liquor, cognac or whisk/e/y, you have to buy yourself a bottle or two from their duty free stocks (I guess the quantity depends on one’s thirst and finances although cognac both in Russia and on Pulkovo Paris flights costs fraction of what it costs on the ground in St. Petersburg). You can buy a small 0.25 l or a half liter bottle (if you can’t manage the real bigger thing). Although beer and wine are complimentary as are juices and soft drinks Pulkovo does not have full bar service in the economy class (on these flights); the cabin crew does not mind if you drink their duty free stocks empty and would even bring plastic cups. Very nice of them.
On this daily St. Petersburg to Paris and Paris to St. Petersburg flight the cabin crew speak Russian and French, which is fantastic (not the hatefully generic “international” English, although in the unfortunate case if you understand neither of these great languages, that’s bad for you of course, flight attendants can also communicate in generic English). The cabin crew is attentive, friendly and take care of their passengers. 10 out of 10 considering the kind of food they serve, generous portions, friendliness and the fact that the flight is relatively short for this kind of inflight service.

Route: Moscow (SVO) - St. Petersburg (LED) , 29 Jun 2002
Ticket price: RUR 3300 one way
Flight duration: 1h 00m
Class: business
Aircraft: Tupolev Tu-154
Meal: lunch - appetizer - seafood plate (could have chosen something else) of
smoked sturgeon
smoked turbot
lightly smoked trout
green salad
cured olives
cheese:
brie
emmentaler
smoked ham
wheat roll
rye bread
butter
chocolate cookes
chocolate
tea/coffee/any other kind of beverage
Drink: Beer (Bochkarev) but could have anything else - juices, mineral water, wine, brandy
Comments: Impressive snack or light lunch (incredibly impressive for seafood and smoked fish lovers) served on this 45 minute flight (barely had enough time to eat it all). Delicious cold beer or anything else you want. Wide, comfortable seats in business class. Excellent service. Pulkovo’s St. Petersburg to Moscow economy class is outstanding too but I couldn’t get seat on that flight because the plane was full, so I bought (the last) business class ticket. Considering this flight’s duration, this is certain 10 out of 10 for food, beverages and service.

Ticket price: £240 (return)
Flight duration: 3 hours
Aircraft type & class: Tupolev Tu-154M, Economy
Business or leisure trip: Leisure
Meal type: Lunch
Contents of the meal: Beef in gravy with rice and kidney beans for main course; bread roll and two slices of bread; cheese, salami slices and an olive; fairy cake with cream centre
Drink: Choice of soft drinks, beer and wine prior to the meal (I chose beer, which was the local Nevskoye variety from St Petersburg) and a choice of tea or coffee during the meal
Comments: The meat was bland, even with extra salt added, although the consistency was fine. It wasn't entirely clear what to do with the bread and the cheese/salami box, so I used them to make couple of sandwiches, which were very tasty. The fairy cake was also enjoyable, with the surprise of a cream centre. As for drinks I was impressed that the beer provided was in a full sized 330ml can, rather than the mini-cans found on some airlines. Service was friendly, and the planes seem quiet heavily staffed

Ticket price: 9000 roubles
Flight duration: 2 hours 30 minutes
Aircraft type & class: Tupolev Tu-154M, Economy
Business or leisure trip: leisure
Drink: I had a few beers throughout the flight, and some red wine with the main course.
Comments: Pulkovo or Pulkovo Airlines is a Russian regional airline. They are excellent. Unfortunately many factors such as Russian visa policies restrict their growth otherwise this is an absolutely fantastic small airline. Service is outstanding, extra friendly by any standard. During that two and a half hour flight to Frankfurt they served a choice of beverages (anything you want), three course meal (they actually serve three different trays). No one else serves meals of this size and variety on internal European flights.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 10. Would grade them 11 or 12 if that was an
option

Flying from: St. Petersburg to Amsterdam, 29 December 2002
Flight duration: 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Aircraft type & class: probably a Tupolev & economy.
Meal: breakfast (!) - a bun, a tuna salad with parsley and an olive,
a sandwich with half a tomato and slices of ham, sausage and cheese
and three olives, a little pie (packed in red paper), butter (in the plastic
cup, hardly visible), some clamp-like pasta with brown beans, corn,
peas and bacon.
Drink: 0,5 l Pepsi light.
Comments: this meal was served at aprox. 10.00 AM St Petersburg time
zone; didn't eat the bun - too much - and the tuna salad - don't like fish.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): due to the overrating of the pie: 11,5
