Route: Brisbane - Melbourne, 30 Apr 2006
Ticket price: Frequent Flyer points
Flight duration: 2h 20m
Class: business
Aircraft: 737-800
Meal: Snack - Appetizer - G&T with mixed nuts
Fritata with green bean, olive and cherry tomato salad, Roasted Capsicum pate and fresh fruit salad
Drink: sauvingon blanc
Comments: Very tasty snack, salad very fresh and crunchy, and the pate divine. Disliked the presentation using prepackaged crackers. On a previous Business class trip, they had some wonderful cheese, would have appreciated a nice piece of cheese to finish rather than the fruit or macadamia nut
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 8.5

Route: Melbourne - Sydney, 25 Feb 2006
Ticket price: $AUS79
Flight duration: 0h 50m
Class: economy
Aircraft: B737-800
Meal: Dinner - Mixed Chicken in Cream Sauce with Vegetables, and a roll that we attempted to cut in half but failed.
Drink: Coke, Water
Comments: A much better meal service comparing to our MEL bound flight in the morning when we only got a muffin. This was a relatively short flight so I was pleased of what they served, except the hard-rock roll.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 7

Route: MEL - PER, 22 Feb 2006
Ticket price: AUD653.99 return
Flight duration: 3h 45m
Class: economy
Aircraft: A330-200
Meal: Dinner, Asian Vegetarian (AVML) - Lentil and carrot stew with broccoli and rice, salad, bread roll and butter, sultanas, Streets Splice ice cream (not pictured)
Drink: Water, red wine, tea
Comments: Main meal was just OK, but screams "institutional food" - they can do better than this (e.g. korma, falafels). Salad less bitter this time, with capsicum slivers in lieu of cherry tomatoes - obviously they have used more conventional greens but what is wrong with good old iceberg lettuce? If you want to get fancy, what about a few fresh herbs? Bread roll slightly less stale than usual - cheese would have helped. Ice cream was nice. Friendly service again on this flight - encouraging!

Ticket price: AUD653.99 return
Flight duration: 3h 35m
Class: economy
Aircraft: A330-200
Meal: Lunch, Asian Vegetarian (AVML) - Chick pea and vegetable korma, salad, bread roll and butter, twix biscuiit, chocolate trumpet ice cream (not pictured)
Drink: Water, red wine, tea
Comments: The main meal was very good, nicely spiced and nicely cooked. Overall quite good, but salad bitter, bread roll stale (why do they persist with these items when cheaper varieties would be much tastier?). Friendly responsive service on this flight.

Route: SYD - PER, 9 Feb 2006
Ticket price: AUD619 return
Flight duration: 4h 25m
Class: economy
Aircraft: Airbus A330-200
Meal: Dinner, Asian Vegetarian (AVML) - Sweet potato dahl & rice, salad, bread roll & margarine, "Splice" ice cream
Drink: water, red wine, tea
Comments: No evidence of sweet potato in the dahl - more like chick peas, green beans and cauliflower in a spicy sauce. Quite tasty all the same. Bitter salad, stale bread roll, chocolate bar accompanying normal meals was omitted from this one. Ice cream was quite nice, with a high content of berries - almost healthy! A mostly satisfactory meal, dragged down by the salad, bread roll and lack of trimmings (ie chocolate)
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 7

Route: PER - SYD, 8 Feb 2006
Ticket price: AUD619 return
Flight duration: 3h 30m
Class: economy
Aircraft: Airbus A330-200
Meal: Lunch, Asian Vegetarian (AVML) - Mediterranean Eggplant and Chick pea Ragout, Salad, bread roll, chocolate, "Trumpet" ice cream (not pictured)
Drink: water, red wine
Comments: This main meal used to be accompanied by sweet potato, but this has now been replaced by pumpkin. A pity, because the sweet potato was occasionally quite nice - unlike the pumpkin, which was cooked to death, and the "ragout" which is now even more dire than before. Appalling - I could not eat it. Salad very bitter, bread roll very stale. At least they didn't omit the chocolate this time, as they are normally wont to do with vegetarian meals.

Route: Perth (PER) - Melbourne (MEL)
date: 08 May 2005
Ticket price: AUD244
Flight duration: 3 hr 35 min
Aircraft type & class B737-800, Economy
Business or leisure trip: Business
Meal type: Breakfast, Asian Vegetarian
Contents of the meal: Scrambled eggs, Hash brown, half fried tomato, spinach; melon salad; mini muffin. Followed much later with "Mother Earth" muesli bar (not shown).
Drink: Water, Orange Juice. There must have been tea/coffee service but I don't remember it - too tired.
Comments: I am not keen on eggs, so can't comment on them. The spinach and hash brown were a little soggy, the tomato was nice. Rockmelon was good but Honeydew melon was a bit mushy. Muffin was way too sweet (~30% sugar). Muesli bar was a nice idea, but the muesli bar itself not so good. Service was surprisingly friendly - and champagne was offered (for Mother's Day).

Route: Melbourne (MEL) - Perth (PER)
date: 05 March 2005
Ticket price: AUD656 return
Flight duration: 3 hr 55 min
Aircraft type B767-300
Business or leisure trip: Business
Meal type: Dinner, Asian Vegetarian
Contents of the meal: Vegetable curry, rice, dahl; salad; bread roll and butter; sultanas. Followed by Mini Magnum ice cream (not shown)
Drink: Water, soft drinks, tea/coffee. Alcohol available for purchase only on weekend flights (why?)
Comments: Dahl was tasty, vegetable curry a little dry but the vegetables had good texture - not over or under cooked. Bread roll not too stale this time. Friendly service. Portions fairly small for a 4 hour flight, but I had eaten well in the Qantas Club lounge as I was afraid I would be served the awful "Mediterranean Chick Pea and Eggplant Ragout" yet again...

Route: Melbourne - Perth, 5 Nov 2004
Ticket price: A$851.18 (return)
Flight duration: 3h35m
Aircraft type & class: Airbus A330-200, Economy
Business or leisure trip: Business
Meal type: Asian Vegetarian (meal was coded "VLML" so it was the same as regular vegetarian)
Contents of the meal: "Mediterranean Chick Pea and Eggplant Ragout", salad, roll, chocolate, water. Followed by small "Magnum" ice cream.
Drink: Jacob's Creek Shiraz Cabernet (not shown because I was only offered it about half an hour after the meal arrived)
Comments: Normally the vegetarian meal is reasonable to excellent, but not tonight... The sweet potato was nice, as were the slivers of capsicum in the salad, but the main part of the meal was quite unappealing, both before and after tasting it. The bread roll was slightly less stale than it normally is, though. Service was a bit sloppy, I was served first and the 2 passengers on the right of the row shortly afterwards, but my colleague sitting in between wasn't offered a meal until a good 20 minutes later (and then there was no choice for him as there was supposed to be, and no explanation or apology given).
Drinks arrived for us several minutes after that.
Rating: 3.5 out of 10
Camera brand & type: Pentax Optio 230. Photo might have been clearer but there isn't much room on Qantas to get far enough away from the meal to get a decent focus

Contents of the meal: Breakfast - Choice of "Continental" or "Hot" - I chose the "Hot" one which consisted of Melon salad, a blueberry and apple muffin with butter and jam (why?), followed by Potato Rosti with bacon and sausage in a tomato concasse.
'Pre-landing' snack - another muffin without butter and jam
Drink: Orange juice and a choice of tea or coffee. Alcoholic and soft drinks were also available free.
Comments: Main breakfast tasted better than it looked; still don't know why there was butter and jam on the tray - maybe they forgot to load the rolls?
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 7, enough food for the flight seeing that I had already snacked out in the Club lounge

Flying from: Adelaide to Sydney, 30 Sep 2003
Ticket price: AUD 303 return + 5,000 points
Flight duration: about 2 hours
Aircraft type & class: 737 Business
Meal type: Lunch
Cold salmon, beans, baby tomatoes and cold bread roll
Calendar cheese & arnott crackers
Drink: Seppelt Chalambar Shiraz + Seppelt Chardonnay + Light Beer
Comments: Adelaide lounge food was better than Sydney. Rice crackers, cheese, yummy cold vegetarian pasta, cucumber, corn chips and chocolate square. Later they also put out hot chicken and corn soup (not pictured). Apple juice. Bar did not open until 1 PM :( Sydney lounge had nothing hot, no pasta, no hot soup.
This flight departed at 12:30 PM, this lunch should have been hot (-2). The salmon tasted really fishy and I did not finish it (-1), bread roll was cold (-1), but the beer was in a bottle (+1) I hate cans.
On my way to the lavatory I happened to see the crew meals, it was not fish, it was hot and looked better than mine.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 4 for this business flight...saved only by lounge food

Comments: Ok this flight departed at 3:30pm and were only serving refreshments. Something hot would have been nice, 2 hour flight is long enough to serve something decent / hot in business don't you think?. Warm bread roll (+1), and beer in a bottle (+1) I hate cans. Good inflight service and was addressed by name (+1).
