Flying from: Rockhampton to Sydney, 6 March 2003
Flight duration: 1hr 40 mins
Aircraft type & class: Boeing 717-200 Economy (single-class aircraft)
Meal type: “Light Refreshment” served at 3.15pm - Strawberry & Cream Cheese Danish (x1), Chocolate Coated Roasted Macadamias (x2)
Drink: Cold spring water, plus tea / coffee. Milk + stirrer pack. Beer cost $5.
Comments: "Since Qantas replaced its world-renowned hot meals on domestic flights with “SNACK”, I was expecting just a muesli bar & water so I had a steak before I got to the airport. Hence I found the danish a little bland & filling, but had I been hungry it would have hit the spot, despite being 90% hollow. Very little evidence of cream cheese within, but lots of strawberry jam. The chocolate macadamias were divine – each coated in very fine chocolate until almost the size of a golf ball, the nut inside being superbly crunchy & roasted. A delicious finale! The beer was $5 but came with a bonus pack of peanuts, plastic glass & logo-serviette (although QF have cut costs to the point of deleting the red-tail off the serviette!). The flight was 2/3rds empty and the aircraft extremely new & clean with very powerful air-conditioning. I was sitting up front so it was also very quiet! A very pleasant flight for $80!! One warning: including the peanuts, this “SNACK” contained a whopping 35 grams of fat!!"
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 6. I would have preferred something less sweet & more healthy (eg a sandwich or roll), but considering that this ex-Impulse aircraft originally didn’t serve meals at all, I think Qantas have done quite well. Go Qantas!!

Flying from: Sydney to Canberra (45 min flight), November 2002.
Class: Economy (entire flight is Economy)
Meal type: Breakfast
Drink: Orange Juice
Comments: "Besides ignoring the fact that I ordered a kosher meal, they served meal something that was quite obviously not kosher. Meal consisted of a dry croissant with ham and cheese, a yoghurt uncle toby museli bar on the top, and juice. They complimented the meal afterwards with a choice of tea or coffee and chewy minties, reasonably good for a flight on a De Havilland Dash 8."

Flying from: Sydney SYD to Coffs Harbour CFS, 28 October 2002
Class: Regional economy (Dash-8)
Meal type: 'Light' refreshment, on a lunchtime flight - 2 sandwich 'fingers', one tasteless chicken and the other tomato. A second service of coffee/tea was offered with biscuits (cookies).
Drink: Water and Coffee
Comments: "Sandwiches are getting smaller each time you fly on QantasLink. These ones were 2 fingers, the same as you would get cutting the sandwich into 3 strips. We were joking that next time it will probably be just the crusts served."
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 1 for the sandwiches.
