Route: Bandar Seri Begawan - Hong Kong, 18 Jan 2006
Ticket price: n/a
Flight duration: 3h 20m
Class: economy
Aircraft: Airbus 320
Meal: Lunch - Entree: Creamy Crab Salad
Main: Choice of Chicken with Potatoes or Sour Fish with rice
Desert: Chocolate Cake
Extras: Bread Roll and Twix bar
Drink: Coca Cola
Comments: Extremely dissapointed this was one of the Airbus fleet that did not have the personal TV's, as was my dissapointment at the B 767 for the same reasons. But more food talk. The Sour Fish with rice was pretty bland. The fish was awful, rice was hard again and plastic cutlery. Though the crab salad was refreshing and the chocolate cake was divine! Bread roll was warm which was good.

The Chicken was again average, flavourless chicken with vegetables that had been boiled til all flavour was leaked out. Wasn't very good. And to make matters worse we were offered the same choices on the return flight to Brunei AND also the same flight back to Sydney.

It seems only the food from Sydney tastes good.
5 for the fish and 6 for the chicken

Main: Beef with Rice and Vegetables
Dessert (not pictured): A cup of gelato
Extras: Cadbury Chocolate, Arnotts Crackers and some Vintage Cheese, Bread Roll
Snacks: Garlic Muffins, Camel Peanuts
Drink: Mango Juice
Drink: Mango Juice
Comments: The juice colour was a bit off, maybe I'm not used to it, but it seemed a bit dark and tasted a bit off too. Anyway, the stewed beef was fantastic, much better than the chicken but still not a perfect 10. The rice was a bit hard but still an excellent meal!

Drink: Tomato Juice
Comments: Well let me start off by saying the juices are all Arabic which was interesting. The entree was very nice breast chicken. The main was bit bland mushed up potatoes and soggy pumpkin and zucchini. Overall a pretty average meal.

Main: Cheesy Pasta with herbs
Dessert (not pictured): A cup of gelato
Extras: Cadbury Chocolate, Arnotts Crackers and some Vintage Cheese, Bread Roll
Snacks: Garlic Muffins, Camel Peanuts
Drink: Mango Juice
Comments: Cheeeesy, mmm, was scrumptious. My only fault would be the prune like thing in the picture, a date I think, it tasted odd. The salad consisted of real breast chicken which was nice. I was suprised they gave us real cutlery besides the knife which is understandable. Also the main was in a real ceramic dish.

Contents of the meal: Beef Bulgogi with fried rice and mushrooms, Thai Spicy Mango Salad, Cut fruits, rolls and chocolate bar.

Route: SIN-BWN (BI 428), Aug 2005
Flight duration: 1hr 50min Aircraft type & class: A320 Economy
Business or leisure trip: Business
Meal type: Breakfast
Contents of the meal: Satay chicken (without the obligatory skewers) with ketupat and pickled carrots, fresh cut fruits, cold roll, coffee and water.
Comments: Just got off an SQ flight from Seoul 2 days ago before hoping onto this BI flight, I was getting pretty exhausted from flying... and was thus losing my focus when I started another round of picture taking of my inflight meals...apologies for the poor quality of the pictures ;-p
Overall, a good meal but it was obvious that the food was heated up prior to take-off in view of the short flight. Food was hardly warm by the time it reached the passengers. Service was good, comparable to SQ, which I am very used to. Portions were however very very small... albeit sufficient for a short hop to the eastern peninsular.

Main - Vegetable Curry with Rice

Snacks - Coon Tasty Cheese & Arnotts Crackers and a snack-size Cadbury Chocolate Bar
Drink:
Comments: The longish bread roll was quite soft. Lovely when spreaded with butter and eaten while still warm.

The asian coleslaw with sweet chili sauce dressing was alright. I only wish it was a little more soury to kick up the appetite.

The inviting curry aroma reached my nose well before the meal cart reached my row! Pity about the flavour though. It was quite bland and more salt was required to make it flavoursome.

I particularly like the dessert - crunchy chocolate muesli slice. The slice was very crunchy and was drenched in this honey/treacle syrup that I found very satisfying.

Comments: The more-ish Camel Cracker Peanuts has a very crunchy coating with a rather distinct garlicky flavour.
A wide range of juices were available. There were the usual orange and apple, as well as pineapple juice and mango juice. I ordered a mix of pineapple and mango which was very refreshing for the start of a long flight.

Drink: Water, juice and coffee (no alcohol available)
Comments: For KUL-BNE: Note airline pillow under tray-table in picture above, as tray-table was sloping towards me at a dangerous angle and needed pillow to prevent meal from sliding into lap. Also, no alternative of chicken meal was available on first leg of flight, even though I was seated 5 rows from the front. Food was very bland though – needed plenty of pepper!

Flight: BI636 from HKG-Bandar Seri Begawan
Aircraft: A320 reg. no. V8-RBT
Flight time: 2h 45m
Class: Economy
Meal: Lunch
Pre-lunch drink of apple juice, or mango juice, Camel nuts, Vermicelli salad Thai Style, either Fish with potatoes or Chicken with rice, Fruit slices, TWIX
Drinks: Anything, but no booze. RBA is a ‘dry’ airline.
Comments: It has been 2 years since we flew RBA and it was interesting to see if they had made any improvements in its food, meal, catering. The juices and Camel nuts were great. The rest….well……the first thing I noticed was that the lid on the main dish has a ‘Royal Brunei food, meal, catering’ sticker on it and that meant it came all the way from Brunei. It showed in the vermicelli, which was very soggy. The chicken dish was horrible. The meat itself was bearable, but the rice had this horrible, stale, mouldy, goodness-knows-what taste to it. Even an avid airline meal fan like me could not stomach it! The fish fared better. The taste was ok. The potatoes were reasonable. The fruit slices were at room temperature and that did it no favours. The saving grace of the meals was the TWIX bars.
Ratings: 1 for the chicken and 4 for the fish, but 10 for the Camel nut
