Comments: After more than 13 years, it was time to say goodbye to the MD-11. Swissair was one of the launching customers of this plane, but what noise and fuel consumption is about, this plane does not come up with the Swiss requirements anymore and is therefore substituted by the Airbus 340.
From november on, the MD-11 is history in Switzerland. A big farewell party took place at ZRH airport followed by a sightseeing flight over the most beautyful mountains of the planet. A lot of former MD-11 Captains were on-board, when they played „Time to say goodbye“ in the cabin after landing, a lot of them began to cry. Thanks Swiss for this wonderful event!

Comments: We were in the air for 19 minutes, and that's due to the fact that we had to land from the north in Basel, otherwise it would have taken no more than 15 minutes to cover the short distance between the two airports, so really nothing was worth being served. Kind touch by Swiss to offer their standard "cubes" together with special occasion chocolate "balls" celebrating the European Football Championships.
A very nice low level panoramic night flight.

Comments: It was an after dinner flight and the meal being light and refreshing was appreciated. Inflight service was friendly and professional. A light load in Business Class also helped.

Comments: As I have already written, you now have to pay for "anything except chocolate cubes" on Swiss short haul economy. As no item appealed to me for breakfast, I just had an apple juice, costing a remarkable 3,80EUR. The flight itself was fine, and the Alps crossing exciting as ever, but I believe prices are absolutely excessive. On the way back, that evening, I decided to go hungry rather than having one of the rather uninspiring (and costly, for what you get) items available for dinner, so - sorry AirlineMeals.net - no pictures covering that flight.
