Dinner: Soup. The menu said smoked eggplant soup but it did taste like
cream of mushroom with some croutons. Main Dish : Chinese sweet and sour
chicken, fried rice and broccoli. Drink : wine.
Comments: I have never heard of eggplant soup but if
it was really one, it was good anyway. Always very nice to have soup in
the air. Main dish was rather tasteless but the single plate presentation
is always very pleasant. Wine : Turkish Airlines does not have a wine
list and the crew does not really know (or care) much what kind of wine
there is. I took a nice Turkish red wine which was very good.
Rating: 8 /10 for soup 6/10 for main dish, 10/10 for
presentation

Meal type: lunch - The pasta I promised myself (see image
033). I'm not a fan of mushrooms (yuk) so first I spent a few minutes
on removing the mushrooms. Try that from a pasta with some sticky sauce,
or cheese on top, it looks pretty disgusting. Of course, after that, I
had to deal with a cold pasta :-) The taste was very good though, despite
the looks. Salad consisted of carrot strips, corn and cucumber strips.
Dessert: one of these delicious Turkish deserts, sweeter than sweet, drenched
in honey. Additional: bread, tea crackers, salad dressing, butter, cheese
and a refreshing towel. Choice of tea or coffee after the meal.
Drink: Pepsi
Comments: Metal cutlery again...

Meal type: lunch - Yellow rice, green beans, paprika,
and the thing in the middle is chicken. Top left = salad, consists of
tomato, mini corn and some lettuce. Desert = apple pie like. Additional:
bread, salted tea crackers, salad dressing, butter, cheese, refreshing
towel. Choice of tea or coffee after the meal.
Drink: mixed cola :-) While serving me, the F/A ran out
of Coke, she filled the cup with Pepsi. Has anyone ever experienced this?
:-)
Comments: I had to choose, chicken or pasta. After this
meal I decided I would take the pasta on the way back. The chicken was
still in it's own skin (greasyyy), not something I really like. Maybe
I have to be happpy there were no bones in it. I was forced to peel off
the skin first. See details on pics 034 and 035...

Flying from: Istanbul to Nice, 2 January 2003
Class: Business on Boeing 737-800
Meal type: Aperitif/Lunch - After the welcome drink (orange
juice, water or champagne) the stewardesses handed out menu cards, and
then the aperitif service followed: I had a tomato juice with pepper,
again served with a bag of roasted hazelnuts as in economy (+8). The tray
was then served, featuring an appetizer platter of delicious smoked salmon
and chicken, accompanied by a horseradish sauce, capers, onion and lemon
(+10), a seasonal salad with artichoke heart, pepper and tomato (the artichoke
and tomato had already gone when I took the picture) served with an Italian
oil/balsamico dressing (+7,5) and a selection of cheese and butter (+8).
Shortly afterwards the hot entrees were brought around, in this case three
choices including sea bass with mushrooms and vegetables, chicken breast
filled with oriental rice pilaf, seasonal vegetables and cream spinach
or "penne rigate" pasta with roasted pinenuts, tomato sauce
with garlic and basil, broccoli and feta cheese. I had the latter and
although it was not "penne rigate" but "fusilli" pasta,
it actually tasted fine, and being Italian I love "al dente"
pasta (+7,5). I was told that also the chicken was very good. After we
had finished, the dessert consisting of a delicious Swiss cherry glace
cake roll (+9) was served from the cart, together with tea/coffee and
digestifs (I had Cointreau). The bread roll was good as anywhere else
around Turkey (+8).
Drink: Champagne (+9) and sparkling water.
Comments: "A very good flight and a very good meal:
compliments to THY. It is difficult to find another European carrier offering
a choice of three hot entrees in Business on a 2 hours 40 minutes flight."

Class: Domestic Economy on Airbus A310-300
Meal type: Breakfast/Snack - A curious double-decker
sandwich filled with some cold cut (believed to be beef) and cheese: bread
was wholemeal. Not bad but not even memorable (+6). Being a morning flight
I'd have preferred something sweet.
Drink: I had a simple orange juice (+7).
Comments: "Considering that the actual time in the
air was less than 45 minutes, it was a good snack."

Flying from: Nice to Istanbul, 26 December 2002
Class: Economy on Boeing 737-800
Meal type: Aperitif/Lunch - First of all aperitif service
- in my case a simple tomato juice - served with a bag of roasted hazelnuts,
which was a nice variation to the ususal peanuts served on many other
carriers. Then lunch followed, including a good mixed salad with french
dressing (+7,5), two hot entrees to choose from including green ravioli
filled with ricotta and spinach in tomato sauce (+8,5), or roasted chicken
breast with mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes (a bit bland and sligthly
dry but not bad at all, +7) of which I had both, spreadable light cheese
and crackers (+7) and for dessert - being Christmas time - a French
Bouche de Noel (sort of sponge cake roll filled with cream and chocolate,
+9). The bread roll was absolutely goog for being "aeronautical"
bread (+8)
Drink: Turkish red wines (Yakut Kavaklidere and Villa
Doluca, both worth a +8,5) and sparkling water.
Comments: "A very nice flight and a very good meal,
far better than what most other European carriers would offer these days
on a 2 hours 40 minutes flight. The Bouche de Noel was a very welcomed
touch."
