Flying from: Hong Kong HKG to Tokyo NRT, September 2002
Class: Business
Meal type: Lunch appetizer - "Sauteed scallops with mesclun
greens;
Lemon aioli."
Drink: Meerea Park Hunter Valley (2000) Semillon
Comments: "Pretty good although scallops aren't my favorite.
These weren't rubbery, though, and the sauce was pleasantly tart.
Same crew as SIN-HKG the day before, again excellent. Same seat,
in fact, with another empty next to me. UA really shines on inter-Asia
flights, IMHO."

Flying from: Chicago ORD to London LHR, 29 September 2002
Class: Business
Meal type: Breakfast - Fruit salad, bagel with cream cheese
Drink: Orange juice, more of UA’s sad tea
Comments: "A tragic mistake took place, with UA serving
this hamster food in place of a hearty breakfast of eggs and hash browns. Deeply
sad."
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 1

Flying from: Chicago ORD to London LHR, 29 September 2002
Class: Business
Meal type: Dinner (Dessert) - Chocolate cheesecake
Drink: Tea
Comments: "A fine piece
of cheesecake. Again, no Earl Grey, and this tea was almost strong enough to
require a teaspoon to drink it with."
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 7 – Earl Grey might have earned
them an extra point

Flying from: Chicago ORD to London LHR, 29 September 2002
Class: Business
Meal type: Dinner (Entree) - Green Mushrooms, spinach, tomato
sauce over spaghetti
Drink: Water, Californian red wine
Comments: "This was okay, but the spaghetti was a little
dry in places. Evidence of the choc chip cookie, bread roll and remains of some
wheat from the appetizer. When is this plastic cutlery nonsense ever going to
end?"
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 6

Flying from: Chicago ORD to London LHR, 29 September 2002
Class: Business
Meal type: Dinner (Appetizer) - Green salad, foccachia bread,
wheat/feta salady thing, bread roll, choc chip cookie
Drink: Water, Californian red wine
Comments: "One of us isn’t a big salad fan. The
bread roll was a little challenging, perhaps due to it’s venerable age.
The choc chip cookie was nice though."

Flying from: Seattle SEA to Chicago ORD, 29 September 2002
Class: First
Meal type: Snack - Cheese Fruit Salad, Toasted Cheese Sandwich,
Potato Salad, Apple Pie
Drink: Tea, Diet Coke
Comments: "Oh dear. Our veggie meals weren’t aboard
and they gave us a Pastrami and Cheese sandwich with the Pastrami removed. Had
we known how magnificent the apple pie was, we’d have asked for just the
apple pie off every unused tray."
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 5. The sandwich was okay and the
apple pie was great.

Meal type: Dinner / vegetarian meal - Pasta salad with red
peppers. Walkers shortbread cookie for dessert.
Drink: Diet Pepsi.
Comments: "This is the worst meal I have ever had on an
airplane, ever. Nasty pasta salad with Italian dressing with a bitter aftertaste.
Appalling. It only got a positive score because of the shortbread."

Flying from: Singapore SIN to Hong Kong HKG, September 2002
Class: Business
Meal type: Breakfast - "Hainanese chicken with rice and
oyster sauce; Braised bok choy, chili sauce with fresh ginger and a fresh seasonal
fruit appetizer,
(your selected entree with be served with breakfast breads, butter and fruit
preserves)".
Drink: Mimosa (I think it was the Henriot non-vintage), coffee,
water.
Comments: "Excellent. Tastes just like you'd find in a
hawker stall in Singapore. The Danish was perfect, too. Great flight with another
empty seat next to me and very polished service."
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 9.5

Flying from: Tokyo NRT to Singapore SIN, September 2002
Class: Business
Meal type: Dinner dessert - "Chocolate brownie with vanilla
sauce".
Drink: Double Baileys on the rocks
Comments: Simple and excellent; the sauce was more like vanilla
pudding. I slept like a baby after this filling meal.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 9.5

Flying from: Tokyo NRT to Singapore SIN, September 2002
Class: Business
Meal type: Dinner main course - "Sauteed veal Zuricoise
with a mushroom cream sauce; Pumpkin gnocchi pasta with tomato fondue.,"
roll and butter.
Drink: More chianti, water.
Comments: "The veal wasn't bad; pretty tender, although
the sauce was quite rich. The pasta crossed the line into "strange"
territory, though, with a
consistency I can't describe other than that it was sort of thick and rubbery.
The green beans were cooked just right, though. Excellent service, though,
very charming and polite. I also had an empty seat next to me which was great."
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 7.5

Meal type: Dinner appetizer - "Seared ahi tuna on sushi
rice with mushrooms and vegetables; Mesclun salad with Asian dressing"
potato roll and butter.
Drink: Chianti (Rocca delle Macie Sangiovese 1999 says the
menu), water.
Comments: "Very nice, although the salad and appetizer
are now combined. The Asian dressing works well with both the salad greens and
the tuna. The sticky
rice was delicious."
