Flying from: Denver DEN to Washington Dulles IAD, October 2002
Class: Business
Meal type: Lunch - Chicken salad with fruit accompaniment, bread stick
and fruit tart for dessert.
Drink: Chilean red wine and water
Comments: "Quite nice for a midday lunch that wasn't too filling. Two
containers of Caesar dressing were provided but one was plenty.
The greens were nice and crisp and the croutons crunchy. The other
choice was a chicken sandwich on foccacia. That's Russell Crowe in
"A Beautiful Mind" on the PTV.

Flying from: Los Angeles LAX to Sydney SYD, 27 July 2002
Class: Economy
Meal type: snack - a courissant with strawberry jam, and yougurt
Drink: orange juice and some tea afterwards
Comments: "hhhfff...... I wonder why sometimes a snack is a nice foccacia sandwich , and this time it was some crappy acedophile yogurt. I know it's good for your health, but it tasted soo bad. Even a simple breakfast mix would have been better...."
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 3

Flying from: Los Angeles LAX to Sydney SYD, 27 July 2002
Class: Economy
Meal type: Breakfast - Mushroom, onion, and cheese omelette (with some potatos in it) with pork sausage and a fresh fruit appetizer.
Drink: orange juice and some tea afterwords
Comments: This was one of the worst foods I had on airlines, strange considering that United's food is usually not bad at all. First of all, they kinda did not heat it up, after they did though, it still tasted like garbage.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 3 (saved by the crouissant and flight attendants desire to give me another (heated!) breakfast)

Class: Economy
Meal type: Breakfast - Braised E-fu noodles with omelette strips and mushrooms (Main dish)

Flying from: Tokyo NRT to Los Angeles LAX, September 2002
Class: Business
Meal type: Breakfast - "Tomato and chive omelette with Hollandaise sauce; Chicken sausage and hash-brown potatoes with a fruit appetizer," also a croissant/butter/grape jam.
Drink: Coffee and water
Comments: "The Hollandaise sauce was vile but I managed to eat around it; I liked the sausage, too. I usually enjoy airline food but at this point I was getting a bit tired of it. The crew was still slow and quite indifferent."
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 6.5

Flying from: Tokyo NRT to Los Angeles LAX, September 2002
Class: Business
Meal type: Dinner main course - "Filet mignon with New Orleans seasoning* (*Today's menu features imported beef.); Garlic mashed potatoes, sauteed spinach, and
pomodoro sauce."
Drink: Red wine and water
Comments: "Good piece of beef; the New Orleans seasoning and the pomodoro (tomato) sauce were sort of mixed up together. Loved the garlic mashed potatoes, though. Service was sooooo slow, at least 45 minutes behind the business cabin downstairs. I fell asleep before dessert came, so that Scotch did the trick."
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 7.5

Flying from: Tokyo NRT to Los Angeles LAX, September 2002
Class: Business
Meal type: Dinner appetizer - "Smoked salmon sushi with gari and crabmeat; Cucumber wakame salad and fresh lemon; Garden fresh salad; Asian citrus dressing," also a poppyseed roll/butter.
Drink: Johnnie Walker Black with some mixed nuts, then a red wine that I can't remember. I was trying to make myself sleepy.
Comments: "Nice big pieces of crab meat with a decent-tasting piece of sushi. I miss the choice of dressing UA used to offer served out of nice silver ladles. A small thing but part of an overall "lackluster" feel to the service on this flight. Yes, the crew was long in the tooth."
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 7

Flying from: Hong Kong HKG to Tokyo NRT, September 2002

Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 9

Flying from: Hong Kong HKG to Tokyo NRT, September 2002
Class: Business
Meal type: Lunch main course - "Yuan-ji marinated salmon with teriyaki sauce and steamed rice; Shimeji mushrooms and pumpkin with asparagus," also some garlic
bread.
Drink: More Semillon, water
Comments: "Nice once I peeled the skin off of the salmon (which was very moist, so the skin did its job). The sauce went well with the peppery rice. Interesting to note that this flight offered two lunch choices (the other was a Chinese-style shrimp stir-fry) and also a breakfast choice of a spinach omelette. Departure time was 10:20 a.m. I believe, in that sort of awkward between time."
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 8
