Route: Denver - San Jose, CA, 8 Jan 2004
Ticket price: $451.50- (Austin - Denver - San Jose round
trip)
Flight duration: 2 h 37 min
Aircraft type & class: Boeing 737-300, Economy
Business or leisure trip: Business
Meal type: Lunch
Contents of the meal: Bennigan's "The County Cork Club" $7.00-
(Description on the menu: Ham, turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and Swiss
and cheddar cheeses stacked between thick slices of toasted sunflower
seed wheat bread, topped with Smoky Dijion dressing.)
Drink: Sparkling Water and Coffee
Comments: They turned out to be really good. It was delicious.
But, I wish I could get a little more variety (like TGI Friday's lunch/dinner
box style). Very efficient flight attendants with continuing serving beverages
all the way over.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 8 for the meal, 10 for the
flight attendants.

Route: DEN-IAD, 14 Mar 2004
Ticket price: FREE!
Flight duration: 3 hours 10 minutes
Aircraft type & class: Boeing 777, Q Class (Economy)
Business or leisure trip: Business trip
Meal type: Lunch, for $10.00 fee
Contents of the meal: Meal included an EXCELLENT sandwich, which has thick
sunflower bread, tomatoes, ham, turkey, and swiss cheese. The meal comes
from Bennigan's, and is MUCH better then the choices offered by Au Bon
Pain on the IAD-DEN leg. Those were horrible.
The meal also included a pickle in a plastic bag, Eli's Cheesecake (which
was good), and a bag of Kettle Chips (which were also good)
Drink:Bluebird Cranberry Juice. No pretzels or snacks (i.e. nuts) are
even served anymore
Comments: The cost-cutting measures by United have really
become apparent. If you find a cheaper airline, i.e. Frontier on this
route, there is really no longer a reason to pay more for United. The
fact that you have to pay for this meal when it used to be free, makes
it even worse. Shame on you United!
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): 5 for having to pay, 10 if
it were free.

Route: LAS to SFO, 25 Jan 2004
Ticket price: $300
Flight duration: 1 hour, 15 minutes
Aircraft type & class: A320, First (upgrade)
Business or leisure trip: Leisure
Meal type: Snack
Contents of the meal: Gourmet Supreme Nut Mix
Drink: Tangueray & Tonic
Comments: This nut mix is great. I'd buy it as the grocery
store if they carried it. It has pistachios, almonds, and various other
nut mix ingredients. I've only ever seen this nut mix served in first
or business class on United, and occasionally in a Red Carpet Club. I'll
miss flying first class to and from Las Vegas. As of February, all SFO
to LAS flights are now TED routes with no first class service.

Comments: A truly delightful flight; because of the lunar
New Year celebration the plane departed Shanghai with less than 100 passengers
aboard. There were only six of us sitting on the Top Deck of the 747-400,
which allowed for a gracious meal and very attentive service in-flight.
This flight was one of the very few I have taken where 12+ hours seemed
all too-short of a time to spend on-board

Comments: An almost empty flight with tremendous and
personable in-flight attention; we departed San Francisco with less than
80 passengers on-board. There were only four of us sitting on the Top

far better than their comparable trans-Atlantic ones.
