Route: Brussels to: Rome, 13 Mar 2004
Flight Duration: 1hr55 minutes
Class: Economy class on Boeing B737-300
Meal type: Dinner
An open face ciabatta sandwich with tomato
sauce, feta cheese, cherry tomatoes and red onion rings, an open face
ciabatta sandwich with pesto sauce and red, yellow and green grilled peppers,
a penne pasta salad with fresh vegetables (assorted peppers, black olives,
grilled zucchini, tomatoes and balsamico dressing).
Drink: a mini bottle of Evian water.
Comments: Another trip to Brussels gave me the opportunity
to yet sample another Alpha D'lish mealbox. This time the product was
"Mediterranée", a nice concoction of traditional Mediterranean
flavours. All ingredients were very fresh, tasty and flavourful. This
time the roll that came along with the meal was not so necessary. Pricing
adequate as usual, having paid 9.45EUR. Can just confirm it's a clever
and good value for money initiative: sorry to see that on the three flights
I flew recently, I was the only passenger to have ordered these meals.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): for the flight +7, for the
food (and its price) +7,5

Meal type: Dinner - A seafood assortment comprising shrimps,
tiger shrimps, crayfish tails, smoked salmon and gravadlax (marinated
salmon), a fresh garden salad (lettuce, radicchio, rocket, frisee) with
oil and balsamico dressing.
Drink: a mini bottle of Evian water.
Comments: On my return trip I had provided to order my
"fruits de mer" dinner at the Alpha D'lish website (www.alphadlish.com).
Again the "lunch box" was presented at my seat by one of the
flight attendants during the flight, together with a warm roll. Food quality
and quantity was perfectly adequate, with all ingredients being fresh
and tasty, comparable to a business class meal. Pricing too was adequate,
having paid 12.45EUR. A very good initiative and a good way to customize
your inflight experience.
Rating 1-10 (worst-best): for the flight +8, for the
food (and its price) +8

Comments: Starting in November 2003, Virgin Express started
a new venture with Alpha food, meal, catering Plc, providing passengers the opportunity
to book their meals online: onboard snacks and munchies are anyway available
for reasonable prices. Booking at the Alpha D'lish (short for Delicious)
website (www.alphadlish.com)
was a straightforward affair, and I could choose my options from an array
of 12 different tempting menus. The "lunch box" was presented
at my seat by one of the flight attendants during the flight, together
with a warm roll. The cardboard box is of a cute design, and contains
a wooden fork, spoon and knife, paper napkin and peg, towelette, salt/pepper,
bottle of water and plastic glass. Food quality was high, comparable to
a business class meal, with fresh and tasty ingredients. The pastries
were particularly good, and the snack itself was absolutely adequate for
the mid-morning departure of my flight. Pricing too was adequate, having
paid 10.45EUR. A very good initiative and a good way to customize your
inflight experience.
