At certain BA long haul locations, you can choose to eat before the flight if you're travelling in Business or First. Business is a buffet but First is a more formal sit down at a table. The point is to allow travellers on red eye flights to get the maximum amount of sleep on board by not interrupting them with a meal service. The goats cheese salad was OK but rather tasteless. It was a very large salad for a starter. The beef bourgignon, in contrast, was very good indeed. The white wine was OK, but the red was awful. One tiny sip was enough to give you goosebumps and never want another. The quiet environment was pleasant, as was the service. The pre-flight dining menu is rather limited in my view: there is a better selection on board the plane. The quality of the wines on the ground in both Business and First is worse than those in the air: there is no Champagne for example on the ground except for locations with dedicated First lounges.
