This is the first of two hot meals on QR816, referred to as brunch. Choice of main included hand-rolled cheese omelette with chicken sausage served with potato rosti and creamy mushrooms, Asian style beef meatballs with garlic soya sauce served with steamed rice and satueed vegetables (pictured here), or penne paste with parmesan herb sauce and sauteed mushrooms. The warm oat roll is highly appreciated. Dessert was peach mousse. Also when you order tea, you get a choice of a green tea teabag or a black tea teabag (Dilmah) and they pour hot water into the cup, rather than tea poured straight out of the thermos.

Equipment: This is the ex Cathay aircraft and you can really see the signs of aging. They even keep the Cathay seat cover. The touchscreen on the entertainment system is slow, and the toilet amenities not the nicest. HOWEVER, the plus side is that they also keep the few rows of Premium Economy, so either one can pay to be seated up front, or if you have the equivalent status of Oneworld Sapphire or above, you and your travel companion can get these seats assigned for free. Plenty of legroom to stretch your legs. Makes this way more appealing and a better value of money than a typical Cathay flight of 8 hours where they actually have a proper Premium Economy cabin.
