This early morning departure to SFO was rather empty, and I ended up having nobody next to me in first class. A pre-departure drink service was served and we were offered 2 choices; the quiche or cereal and fruit. The meal was served about 20 minutes after departure (which was nice to allow us to doze off quickly after our meal and get some actual rest), and the FA came around with warm biscuits or croissants after we were served. Everything tasted about as fresh as I could ask and was flavorful, the biscuit I recall was very good. A solid breakfast on this early morning 4-hour service. Better than I expected. In contrast to the pre-merger UA meals which didn't seem to change much for decades, the modern menu on United has been pretty good, and the quality is much better as well. It has been several years since I disliked a meal on United in a premium cabin.
